Pyrrhuloxia
The pyrrhuloxia or desert cardinal (''Cardinalis sinuatus'') is a medium-sized North American song bird found in the American southwest and northern Mexico. This distinctive species with a short, stout bill and red crest and wings, and closely resembles the northern cardinal and the vermilion cardinal, which are in the same genus. Taxonomy The desert cardinal is one of three birds in the genus '' Cardinalis'' in the family Cardinalidae, a group of passerine birds found in North and South America. Its name of pyrrhuloxia – once part of its scientific name – comes from Greek terms describing its coloration (πυρρος = = reddish or orange) and the shape of its bill (λοξος = = oblique). Cardinalidae (often referred to as the "cardinal-grosbeaks" or simply the "cardinals") is a family of New World-endemic passerine birds that consists of cardinals, grosbeaks, and buntings. It also includes several birds such as the tanager-like '' Piranga'' and the warbler-like '' Granatellus''. As such, membership of this group is not easily defined by a single or even a set of physical characteristics, but instead by molecular work. Charles Lucien Jules Laurent Bonaparte, 2nd Prince of Canino and Musignano (24 May 1803 – 29 July 1857), was a French naturalist and ornithologist. Lucien and his wife had twelve children, including Cardinal Lucien Bonaparte. Life and career Bonaparte was the son of Lucien Bonaparte and Alexandrine de Bleschamp. Lucien was a younger brother of Napoleon I, making Charles the emperor’s nephew. Born in Paris, he was raised in Italy. On 29 June 1822, he married his cousin, Zénaïde, in Brussels.
