Laurentino Cortizo
Laurentino "Nito" Cortizo Cohen (; born 30 January 1953) is a Panamanian politician who has served as the President of Panama since 2019. Cortizo is the former President of the National Assembly and Minister of Agricultural and Livestock Development. He was also a member of the National Assembly between 1994 and 2004, serving a year as chamber president. A member of the Democratic Revolutionary Party, he was elected as president on in the 2019 general election, winning 33.27% of the vote. He took office on 1 July 2019. The National Liberal Party ( es, Partido Liberal Nacional) was a liberal party in Panama. The party was an observer at Liberal International. The party was formed in 1903 out of the Panamanian branch of the Colombian Liberal Party, shortly after Panama declared independence. The PNL merged with Solidarity Party (Partido Solidaridad) to form the new Patriotic Union Party (Unión Patriótica) in 2009. Carlos Antonio Mendoza Soto (31 October 1856, in Panama City – 13 February 1916) was Panamanian politician who served since 1908 as the second presidential designate in the government of José Domingo de Obaldía and since the death of the first presidential designate José Agustín Arango in 1909 he was first in line to the presidency. In that capacity Mendoza became President of Panama from 1 March 1910 to 1 October 1910. He belonged to the Liberal Party. José Domingo de Obaldía Gallegos (30 January 1845 – 1 March 1910) was President of Panama from October 1, 1908 to March 1, 1910. Jose Domingo de Obaldía Gallegos was the second President of the Republic of Panama from 1908 to 1910 and the first president elected by popular vote after the separation of Panama from Colombia. Manuel Espinosa Batista
Manuel Espinosa Batista (September 12, 1857 – November 27, 1919) was a Colombian pharmacist turned politician who campaigned for a separate Panama state and became one of "Founders of the Republic". He is known for his philanthropy. Early life Born in Cartagena, Colombia, his father was Manuel Espinosa and his mother was Purificación Batista. At the early age of 13 he traveled to the Isthmus of Panama after being encouraged to do so by his relatives in Panama. He started to work for a pharmacy, raising money to pay for his books and pharmaceutical studies. Eventually, he became an expert pharmacist and established a pharmacy on Central Avenue in 1882, in front of the Arias-Feraud house (now known as Casa de la Municipalidad). A few months later, his great friend Jose Gabriel Duque was given a government contract to create a National Lottery and Manuel became his guarantor. Federico Augusto Boyd López (24 September 1851 – 25 May 1924) was acting President of Panama from October 1, 1910 to October 5, 1910. He belonged to the Liberal Party. Boyd was born in Panama City on September 24, 1851. He was the son of Archibaldo B. Boyd and Maria Lopez de Boyd. He was a businessman who became an active member of the Patriotic Revolutionary Junta that struggled to get Panama's independence from Colombia. He fought in favor of his country without thinking of the danger of the actions he undertook.
