Peqin
Peqin (, sq-definite, Peqini) is a town and municipality in Elbasan County, central Albania. The municipality was formed at the 2015 local government reform by the merger of the former municipalities Gjoçaj, Karinë, Pajovë, Peqin, Përparim and Shezë, that became municipal units. The seat of the municipality is the town Peqin. The total population is 26,136 (2011 census), in a total area of 197.90 km2. The population of the former municipality at the 2011 census was 6,353. History The city dates back 2000 years, it is mentioned as Illyrian fortress. The ancient name of Peqin was Clodiana. The city's modern name derives from the Ottoman form ''Bekleyin'', which means a place of hospitality. During Ottoman rule Peqin belonged to the Sanjak of Elbasan. The Ottoman Peqin Castle still exists, along with some original parts of the mosque of Abdurrahman Pasha, who had been the governor of Wallachia and Moldavia (former Bogdania). Gugash Magani (born 14 March 1965) is an Albanian retired football player and current coach. Club career Magani played the majority of his 22-year professional career with Shkumbini Peqin, while also having stints at other Albanian clubs Besa Kavajë and Partizani Tirana. KS Shkumbini
KF Shkumbini is an Albanian football club based in the city of Peqin. The club's home ground is the Shkumbini Stadium and they compete in the Kategoria e Dytë. History Football was first introduced to the city of Peqin in the early 1920s after an army officer from Shkodër brought along a ball with him. An amateur club was formed in 1924 by Adem Bedali and other local men who had begun playing football. In the club's infancy they played friendly games with teams from other cities in Albania, before the creation of the Albanian Football Association in 1930 who organised the first official football competitions in the country. Shkumbini's first trophy came in 1936 when they defeated Apolonia Fier to win the Kategoria e Dytë. Clock Mosque
The Abdurrahman Pasha Mosque, also called Clock Mosque () or simply Peqin Mosque is a Cultural Monument of Albania, located in Peqin. It was built in 1666 by Abdi Pasha the Albanian and resembled the Et'hem Bey Mosque in the Albanian capital Tirana. The mosque is located in the central square of the old town at the main route between Durres and Elbasan. Later destroyed by a fire, it was rebuilt in the 1830s by a descendant of Abdi Pasha, Cafer Sadık Pasha. Its minaret and its dome were destroyed in 1970 by the communist dictatorship under Enver Hoxha. The mosque was reconstructed in 1992. Peqin Castle
The Peqin Castle ( sq, Kalaja e Peqinit) is a castle in Peqin, Albania. In the Roman times the city was known by the name of Claudiana, an Illyrian-inhabited territory. The foundations of the castle are thought to date from the Roman period, the time of the construction of the Via Egnatia. Its walls at one point had a height of around . The castle was later rebuilt and expanded during the Turkish occupation of Albania, at which time it was passed into the control of the Sipahi (lord) of the local fief, who added a palace and a harem. Abdurrahman Abdi Pasha the Albanian ( tr, Arnavut Abdurrahman Abdi Paşa; 1616–1686) was an Ottoman politician and military leader of Albanian descent, who served as the last governor of the province of Budin. Life Early life Abdurrahman Abdi Arnavud Pasha was born in the village of Çopani near Peqin, Albania. He joined the Ottoman army and became Agha of the Janissaries in 1667. Hekuran Isai (7 May 1933 in Peqin – 26 March 2008 in Tirana) was an Albanian politician of the Albanian Party of Labour (PPSh). Life After joining the Albanian Party of Labour (Alb: ''Partia e Punes së Shqipërisë'') in 1957, he studied in the Soviet Union from 1957 to 1960. On his return Isai served as a specialist in a petroleum refinery in Cërrik.
