Northern Ontario
Northern Ontario is a primary geographic and quasi-administrative region of the Provinces and territories of Canada, Canadian province of Ontario, the other primary region being Southern Ontario. Most of the core geographic region is located on part of the Superior craton, Superior Geological Province of the Canadian Shield, a vast rocky plateau located mainly north of Lake Huron (including Georgian Bay), the French River (Ontario), French River, Lake Nipissing, and the Mattawa River. The statistical region extends south of the Mattawa River to include all of the District of Nipissing. The southern section of this district lies on part of the Grenville Orogeny, Grenville Geological Province of the Shield which occupies the transitional area between Northern and Southern Ontario. Ontario French
Franco-Ontarians ( or if female, sometimes known as ''Ontarois'' and ''Ontaroises'') are Francophone Canadians that reside in the province of Ontario. Most are French Canadians from Ontario. In 2021, according to the Government of Ontario, there were Francophones in the province. The majority of Franco-Ontarians in the province reside in Eastern Ontario, Northeastern Ontario, Central Ontario (including the Greater Toronto Area), although small francophone communities may be found in other regions of the province. The first francophones to settle in Ontario did so during the early 17th century, when most of it was part of the '' Pays d'en Haut'' region of New France. John Vanthof
John Vanthof ( , born ) is a Canadian politician in Ontario, Canada. He is a New Democratic member of the Legislative Assembly of Ontario who was elected in 2011. He represents the riding of Timiskaming—Cochrane. On August 23, 2018 he was named one of the party's two Deputy Leaders alongside Sara Singh, and critic for Agriculture and Food, and for Rural Development. Rosario "Ross" Romano (born 1979) is a Canadian politician who served as Chief Government Whip in the Legislative Assembly of Ontario. Sol Mamakwa ( , Oji-Cree: ᓴᐧᓬ ᒣᒣᑫᐧ) is a Canadian politician who was elected to the Legislative Assembly of Ontario in the 2018 provincial election. Michael Gravelle (born January 23, 1949) is a politician in Ontario, Canada. He was a Liberal member of the Legislative Assembly of Ontario who represented the riding of Thunder Bay—Superior North from 1995 to 2022 (known as Port Arthur from 1995 to 1999).
