A network operating system (NOS) is a specialized operating system for a network device such as a router, switch or firewall. Cisco IOS XE
IOS XE is a release train of Cisco Systems' widely deployed Internetworking Operating System (IOS), introduced with the ASR 1000 series. It is built on Linux and provides a distributed software architecture that moves many operating system responsibilities out of the IOS process and has a copy of IOS running as a separate process. ZyNOS
ZyNOS is the proprietary operating system used on network devices made by Zyxel Communications. The name is a contraction of Zyxel and Network Operating System (NOS). History Zyxel first introduced ZyNOS in 1998. Versions Zyxel released ZyNOS version 4.0 for their GS2200 series 24 and 48 port ethernet switches in April, 2012. Catalyst is the brand for a variety of network switches, wireless controllers, and wireless access points sold by Cisco Systems.
