Loan officers evaluate, authorize, or recommend approval of loan applications for people and businesses. Most loan officers are employed by commercial banks, credit unions, mortgage companies, and related financial institutions. Mortgage loan officers must be licensed. Duties Loan officers typically do the following: * Contact companies or people to ask if they need a loan * Meet with loan applicants to gather personal information and answer questions * Explain different types of loans and the terms of each type to applicants * Obtain, verify, and analyze the applicant's financial information, such as the credit rating and income level * Review loan agreements to ensure that they comply with federal and state regulations * Approve loan applications or refer them to management for a decision * Loan officers use a process called underwriting to assess whether applicants qualify for loans. Loan Application
In finance, a loan is the tender of money by one party to another with an agreement to pay it back. The recipient, or borrower, incurs a debt and is usually required to pay interest for the use of the money. The document evidencing the debt (e.g., a promissory note) will normally specify, among other things, the principal amount of money borrowed, the interest rate the lender is charging, and the date of repayment. Commercial Banks

A credit union is a member-owned nonprofit cooperative financial institution. Loan origination is the process by which a borrower applies for a new loan, and a lender processes that application.
