Francis Burt
Sir Francis Theodore Page Burt (14 June 1918 – 8 September 2004) was an Australian jurist who served as the 11th Chief Justice of Western Australia, from 1977 to 1988, and the 27th Governor of Western Australia, from 1990 to 1993. Burt was born in Cottesloe, a suburb of Perth Western Australia, and educated at Guildford Grammar School. He studied law at the University of Western Australia, and also served in the Royal Australian Navy and the Royal Australian Air Force during the Second World War. Burt was made a justice of the Supreme Court of Western Australia in 1969, and was promoted to Chief Justice in 1977. As Chief Justice, he served as lieutenant-governor. When the Governor of Western Australia, Gordon Reid, resigned in 1989, Burt was appointed to succeed him and served as governor until 1993. Old Perth Boys School
The Old Perth Boys School, located at 139 St Georges Terrace, Perth, Western Australia, is the earliest government school building in Western Australia. The single-storey limestone building was designed by William Ayshford Sanford in 1852 and is a significant example of a colonial building constructed in Perth from the mid-nineteenth century. Built form The Old Perth Boys School was designed in an early gothic revival architecture style. It is a single-storey limestone building with a steeply pitched roof (originally shingled) and narrow vertical windows. The building, which closely resembles a church, had a wing added to the north in 1865 and another to the south in 1868. The shingle roof has been covered with corrugated iron sheeting, and the bell tower and spire have been removed. The University of Western Australia (UWA) is a public research university in the Australian state of Western Australia. Shenton House
Shenton House is a historic building within the grounds of The University of Western Australia in Perth. It is a two-story Georgian style building with surrounding verandas. Originally called 'Crawley Park House', it is the oldest building on campus, built in 1846 by Henry Charles Sutherland. Sutherland was a surveyor who became Clerk to the Colonial Treasurer, then Secretary to the Executive and Legislative Councils, and later Collector of Inland Revenue and Colonial Treasurer. It was given to the University in 1914 to accommodate the Department of Mining and Engineering, which occupied it until 1960. Various alterations were made during this period to accommodate teaching requirements. In 1921, the University formally acquired the roughly property, including the house, from the family of Sir George Shenton. It was then renamed in his honour. St John's Pro-Cathedral is located at 18 Victoria Avenue in Perth, Western Australia. It is the earliest Roman Catholic church building in Western Australia. Built form The Cathedral is constructed of brick that has been covered with lime render and painted ochre to resemble the colour of the original building. The gable roof is covered with shingles. The north and south facades are punctuated by arched windows. Buttresses have been placed at regular intervals down the length of these facades. The portico, which was removed in 1881, has been reconstructed at the western end of the building. The western gable end is punctuated by four arched windows, a pair above the portico and a single window either side of the portico. A lean-to extension is located at the eastern end of the southern facade. Entry to this section is through an arched door on the north facade. All Saints Church, Henley Brook
The All Saints Church in Henley Brook is the oldest church in Western Australia. It was built by Richard Edwards between 1838 and 1840, with the first service taking place on 10 January 1841. The site is on a small hill overlooking the Swan River and near the conjunction of the Swan and Ellen Brook. This site was where Captain James Stirling camped during his 1827 exploration of the area. 1827 expedition On 13 March 1827, Stirling's expedition of the Swan River finished in the area, unable to venture further upstream due to lack of navigable water. The party made camp on the high bank overlooking the river. Tranby is a village in Lier municipality in Viken, Norway. The village consists mainly of three residential areas located in a semi-circle around a small forest area. Tranby is a part of a greater urban area which also encompasses the village of Hennummarka. The urban area is named Tranby and has a population of 5,322. Tranby Church (''Tranby kirke'') dates from 1855. It was designed by architects Heinrich Ernst Schirmer and Wilhelm von Hanno. The edifice is constructed of stone and has 360 seats.
