Kinesis (biology)
Kinesis, like a taxis or tropism, is a movement or activity of a cell or an organism in response to a stimulus (such as gas exposure, light intensity or ambient temperature). Unlike taxis, the response to the stimulus provided is non-directional. The animal does not move toward or away from the stimulus but moves at either a slow or fast rate depending on its " comfort zone." In this case, a fast movement (non-random) means that the animal is searching for its comfort zone while a slow movement indicates that it has found it. Types There are two main types of kineses, both resulting in aggregations. However, the stimulus does not act to attract or repel individuals. Kinesis (band)
Kinesis were an alternative rock band from Bolton, England. The group formed in September 2000 whilst at school, and split after five years in June 2005. During this time they recorded two full studio albums, a mini album and several singles under three record labels. Members The band consisted of Michael Bromley (vocals, guitar), Neil Chow (drums, vocals), Tom Marshall (bass guitar, vocals) and Conor McGloin (guitar) Recording history Their first recording was the five track, self-released EP, ''The Flowers Are Dead'', which was followed up by a mini-album, ''Worship Yourself''. This mini-album was released on the band's own 'White Noise Recordings' record label. At that time, the ages of the band ranged from 16 to 18. Rave reviews of ''Worship Yourself'' in publications such as ''Kerrang!'' helped the band build up a dedicated, if small, fan base in the UK. Earwig
Earwigs make up the insect order Dermaptera. With about 2,000 species in 12 families, they are one of the smaller insect orders. Earwigs have characteristic cerci, a pair of forcep-like pincers on their abdomen, and membranous wings folded underneath short, rarely used forewings, hence the scientific order name, "skin wings". Some groups are tiny parasites on mammals and lack the typical pincers. Earwigs are found on all continents except Antarctica. Kinesis (keyboard)
Kinesis is a company based near Seattle that offers computer keyboards with ergonomic designs as alternatives to the traditional keyboard design. Most widely known among these are the contoured ''Advantage'' line, which features recessed keys in two bucket-like hollows to allow the user's fingers to reach keys with less effort. Moreover, the keys are laid out in perfect vertical rows to avoid the need for lateral movements during typing. In addition, the modifiers such as enter, alt, backspace, control, etc. are moved to a central location so they can be pressed with the stronger thumbs rather than the pinky fingers. ''Kinesis'' was a magazine published from 1974 to 2001, by Vancouver Status of Women, in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. Subtitled "news about women that's not in the dailies", it was published 10 times each year and carried news with a social change and feminist perspective. It acted as a forum for queer, immigrant, anti-classist, and anti- ablecentrist voices. It was edited by Emma Kivisild from 1984 to 1986, Esther Shannon from 1986 to 1988, Nancy Pollak from 1988 to 1992, and Fatima Jaffer from 1992 to 1994. Vancouver Status of Women was funded in part by government grants. Funding issues and changes in editorial direction led to the shuttering of the magazine in 2001. In philosophy, potentiality and actuality are a pair of closely connected principles which Aristotle used to analyze motion, causality, ethics, and physiology in his ''Physics'', ''Metaphysics'', '' Nicomachean Ethics'', and '' De Anima''.
