Ince, Cheshire
Ince is a village and civil parish in the unitary authority of Cheshire West and Chester and the ceremonial county of Cheshire, England. It is situated immediately to the east of the Stanlow Oil Refinery. It shares Ince & Elton railway station with the village of Elton, which it runs into. According to the 2001 census it was recorded as having a population of 209. By the 2011 census this had marginally reduced to 203. Ince Park is being developed near the village. History The name Ince, first recorded in the Domesday Book as ''Inise'', is from the Primitive Welsh ''ïnïs'', meaning "island". The name refers to the village's position on a low ridge in the marshlands around the rivers Gowy and Mersey. Ince was a township split between the ancient parishes of both Ince and Stoak, within the Eddisbury Hundred. Ince-in-Makerfield or Ince is a town in the Metropolitan Borough of Wigan, in Greater Manchester, England. The population of the Ince ward at the 2011 census was 13,486, but a southern part of Ince was also listed under the Abram ward (north of Warrington Road in this ward). Adding on this area brings the total in 2011 to 15,664. Within the boundaries of the historic county of Lancashire, Ince is contiguous to Wigan and is a residential suburb. Divided by a railway line into two separate areas - Higher Ince and Lower Ince, from 1894 Ince was an urban district of the administrative county of Lancashire and in 1974 became part of the Metropolitan Borough of Wigan. Ince was a parliamentary constituency in England which elected one Member of Parliament (MP) to the House of Commons of the Parliament of the United Kingdom. Ince Blundell is a village and civil parish in the Metropolitan Borough of Sefton in the ceremonial county of Merseyside and historic county of Lancashire, England. It is situated to the north of Liverpool on the A565 road and to the east of the village of Hightown. There are two associated hamlets of Lady Green and Carr Houses. History Ince Blundell is probably the oldest settlement within the Borough of Sefton. The name Ince comes from ''Hinne'' a Celtic word meaning "island in the marsh".
