Electoral District Of Frankston
The electoral district of Frankston is an electoral district of the Victorian Legislative Assembly. It currently includes the suburbs of Frankston and Frankston South south east of Melbourne. The electorate was first created prior to the 1967 election and the Liberal Party held the seat until the Cain landslide of 1982. Population increases, however, meant the seat was abolished in 1985 and replaced by two electorates—Frankston South and Frankston North. In 1992, Frankston South was replaced mostly by a recreated Frankston. It became very safe for the Liberal Party, who won it with margins well over 10%. Paul Edbrooke
Paul Andrew Edbrooke (born 5 December 1978) is an Australian politician. He has been a Australian Labor Party (Victorian Branch), Labor Party member of the Victorian Legislative Assembly since November 2014, representing the Legislative Assembly seat of Electoral district of Frankston, Frankston. He was raised in the Latrobe Valley, with both parents highly active in the Salvation Army, and his father a Corps Sergeant Major. Edbrooke moved to Frankston in 2001, and now lives in Mount Eliza with his family. Edbrooke is a former teacher and firefighter with the Country Fire Authority (CFA), based at Frankston fire station. He mostly taught in Special Developmental Schools. Over fourteen years as a career firefighter, Edbrooke worked at some of the state's largest and most complex fires, including the Dandenong Dunlopillo factory fire, Black Saturday fires and the Morwell coal mine fire, where it is recorded that he was almost killed during a night shift. 2006 Victorian State Election
The 2006 Victorian state election, held on Saturday, 25 November 2006, was for the 56th Parliament of Victoria. Just over 3 million Victorians registered to vote elected 88 members to the Legislative Assembly and, for the first time, 40 members to the Legislative Council under a proportional representation system (Single transferable voting). The election was conducted by the independent Victorian Electoral Commission. The Labor Party government of Premier Steve Bracks, first elected in 1999, won a third consecutive term with 55 of the 88 lower house seats, down seven from the 62 Labor won in 2002. Electoral districts of Victoria are the electoral districts, commonly referred to as "seats" or "electorates", into which the Australian State of Victoria is divided for the purpose of electing members of the Victorian Legislative Assembly, one of the two houses of the Parliament of the State. The State is divided into 88 single-member districts. The Legislative Assembly has had 88 electorates since the 1985 election, increased from 81 previously. Electoral boundaries are redrawn from time to time, in a process called ''redivision''. Andrea McCall
Andrea Lea McCall (born 16 March 1952) is a former Australian politician. She was the Liberal member for Frankston in the Victorian Legislative Assembly from 1996 to 2002. McCall was born in Yorkshire, England, and was educated at Harrogate. She received a Bachelor of Arts from the Universite de Lyon in 1972, and a Business Diploma from the French Institute in London in 1973. In 1976 she received a Graduate Diploma from London Polytec. She worked as a marketing advisor from 1977 to 1981, and in 1983 moved to Australia, where she became a personnel consultant; in that year she also joined the Liberal Party. From 1984 to 1990 she was proprietor of the McCall Group, and from 1990 to 1995 was a lecturer at VUT in Footscray. In 1996, McCall was elected as the Liberal member for Frankston in the Victorian Legislative Assembly. She was chair of the Women's Action Plan Consultative Committee from 1998 to 1999. Jane Hill (politician)
Jane Margaret Hill (13 July 1936 – 7 September 2015) was an Australian politician. She was a Labor Party member of the Victorian Legislative Assembly from 1982 to 1992, representing the electorates of Frankston and Frankston North. Hill was born in the rural town of Dimboola, where she attended Dimboola State School and Dimboola High School. She moved to Melbourne after completing high school, and worked as a mothercraft nurse until her marriage in 1956. She lived in regional Victoria from 1956 to 1969, when she returned to Melbourne, settling in Frankston. Hill resumed work in 1974, taking up a position as a catering officer at the Frankston Nursing Home. She was elected to the City of Frankston council in 1979, and held both positions simultaneously until her election to parliament in 1982. Edward Meagher
Edward Raymond Meagher (22 November 1908 – 31 May 1988) was an Australian politician. Background He was born in Brunswick to storeman Edward Roden Meagher and Florence May Williams. He attended Melbourne Technical College, and from 1933 to 1948 was a municipal officer for Brunswick City Council. On 9 September 1939 he married Winifred Jean Hard; they had one son. After World War II Meagher briefly ran a newsagency, milk bar and grocery in the Melbourne suburb of Beaumaris, Victoria. Army career On 2 May 1940, Meagher was appointed as a captain in the Australian Imperial force. By October of that year he had been promoted to the rank of Major. He served in Syria and Java in World War II before his capture, after which he was a prisoner of war working on the Burma Railway (1942–45).
