Coin Magic
Coin magic is the manipulating of coins to entertain audiences. Money Magic, pp. 175-221. Because coins are small, most coin tricks are considered close-up magic or table magic, as the audience must be close to the performer to see the effects. Though stage conjurers generally do not use coin effects, coin magic is sometimes performed onstage using large coins. In a different type of performance setting, a close-up coin magician (or 'coin worker') will use a large video projector so the audience can see the magic on a big screen. Coin magic is generally considered harder to master than other close-up techniques such as card magic, as it requires great skill and grace to perform convincingly, and this requires much practice to acquire. Dai Vernon
David Frederick Wingfield Verner (June 11, 1894August 21, 1992), better known by his stage names Dai Vernon (pronounced alternatively as "DIE" or as "DAY" as in David) or The Professor, was a Canadian magician. Vernon's sleight of hand technique and knowledge, particularly with card tricks and close-up magic, garnered him respect among fellow magicians, and he was a mentor to them. From 1963, he worked at and lived out his last decades at the Magic Castle, an exclusive specialty nightclub in Hollywood, Los Angeles, California. Luis Piedrahita
Luis Piedrahita Cuesta (born 1977) is a Spanish stand-up comedian, magician, script writer, broadcaster and author. He is known as "El Rey de las Cosas Pequeñas" ("The King of Small Things"), due to his monologues in which he critiques the lack of regard of everyday things such as toilet lids, carnivorous plants, etc. Early life and education He was born in A Coruña, Spain on February 19, 1977. Rich Ferguson (born Richard Jeffrey Evans; December 1, 1970), aka "The Ice Breaker", is an American magician. He is the producer and host of the ''Official Poker'' Chip Tricks and Card Handling DVD Series. Ferguson went to college for engineering and worked for United Parcel Service prior to becoming a full-time entertainer and creative consultant in 1997. Ferguson married Traci Adams August 8, 2008. Jay Sankey
Jay Sankey is a Canadian close-up magician and a prolific creator of magic effects. He has been an active stage performer since the mid-1980s. Work He is known as a stand-up comedian and authored a book about the art of stand-up, ''Zen and the Art of Stand-Up Comedy'' in 1999. However, he is best known for the many magical effects which he has published to help magicians develop their craft. His most well known works include his "Revolutionary Coin Magic" and "Revolutionary Card Magic" DVDs. In 2009, Sankey announced that Andi Gladwin and Joshua Jay were in the process of writing his complete works in a trilogy of books. Rocco Silano
Rocco Silano is an American magician, author, and lecturer. Biography Silano was born c. 1960, in Paterson, New Jersey. Early on in his career, Rocco studied with and was managed by sleight-of-hand expert and Tony Slydini protégé Bill Wisch. Silano studied with Wisch for at least 4 months in 1980, when Wisch taught him many Slydini routines, including Slydini's cigarette production. “For the last four months Silano has taken private lessons from Bill Wisch, the successor to Slydini, the famous 83-year-old magician, Slydini, who is “one of the best” according to Silano, does not teach anymore. David Stone (recently known as Klek Entos) his original name is David Muller. He is a French actor, writer, lecturer, producer and magician specialising in close-up magic and coin magic. Early life and career David Stone was born in Eaubonne, France. He was 19 years old when a school friend showed him magic tricks and taught him card manipulation. At the age of 23, Stone won the Lex Diavol, a regional contest for magicians organised annually in France by FFAP. Michael Vincent (born Michael Vincent Louis; 14 February 1964) is a British magician. He won The Magic Circle's Close-up Magician of the Year award three times (1983, 1991 and 2003). Biography He first became interested in magic in 1970, after watching magicians David Nixon, Doug Henning, Fred Kaps and Slydini perform on television. Dean Dill (8 March 1947 – 7 February 2015) was a magician and effects designer who lived and worked in Glendale, California, US. He appeared on ''The Tonight Show'' in November 1990. His performance focused mostly on closeup effects and coin magic. He created effects, including "Dean's Box," "Blizzard", and "A New World" (created with magic innovator Michael Weber). Michael Ammar (born June 25, 1956) is an American close-up magician. Background Ammar was born in Logan, West Virginia. His father's background was Syrian. Ammar earned a degree from West Virginia University in business administration in 1978.
