Climate And Energy
In the 21st century, the Earth's climate and its energy policy interact and their relationship is studied and governed by a variety of national and international institutions. The relationships between energy-resource depletion, climate change, health resources and the environment, and the effects that they have on each other, have been subject to numerous scientific studies and Scientific research, research efforts. As a result, a majority of governments see climate and energy as two of the most important policy goals of the twenty first century. The correlation between climate and energy rests on known causal relationships between human population growth, rising energy consumption and land use and the resulting greenhouse gas emissions and climate change. Environmental harm was caused early on during the industrial revolution, with air pollution being caused by soot coming from factories, as well as the greenhouse gas carbon dioxide being emitted into the atmosphere due to t ...

Wind Speed Climatology
Wind is the natural movement of atmosphere of Earth, air or other gases relative to a planetary surface, planet's surface. Winds occur on a range of scales, from thunderstorm flows lasting tens of minutes, to local breezes generated by heating of land surfaces and lasting a few hours, to global winds resulting from the difference in absorption (electromagnetic radiation), absorption of solar energy between the climate zones on Earth. The study of wind is called anemology. The two main causes of large-scale atmospheric circulation are the differential heating between the equator and the poles, and the rotation of the planet (Coriolis effect). Within the tropics and subtropics, thermal low circulations over terrain and high plateaus can drive monsoon circulations. In coastal areas the sea breeze/land breeze cycle can define local winds; in areas that have variable terrain, mountain and valley breezes can prevail. Winds are commonly classified by their scale (spatial), spatial ...

European Union Climate And Energy Package
The European plan on climate change consists of a range of measures adopted by the members of the European Union to fight against climate change. The plan was launched in March 2007, and after months of tough negotiations between the member countries, it was adopted by the European Parliament in December 2008. The package focuses on emissions cuts, renewables and energy efficiency. Timeline 10 January 2007: The European Commission presented a series of proposals setting ambitious targets of greenhouse gases reduction. It announced the EU would commit itself to reducing emissions of developed countries by 30% (compared to 1990 levels) by 2020 in international negotiations. In addition, the Commission planned its commitment to reduce its domestic emissions by at least 20% by 2020. 8–9 March 2007: The European Council approved of the objectives of reducing emissions of greenhouse gases presented by the commission on 10 January 2007. As part of a plan of action on energy polic ...

Renewable Energy Sources And Climate Change Mitigation
The United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) published a special report on ''Renewable Energy Sources and Climate Change Mitigation'' (''SRREN'') on May 9, 2011. The report developed under the leadership of Ottmar Edenhofer evaluates the global potential for using renewable energy to mitigate climate change. This IPCC special report provides broader coverage of renewable energy than was included in the IPCC's 2007 climate change assessment report, as well as stronger renewable energy policy coverage. In the present time, there is an obvious trend to have more renewable energy sources and therefore to overcome life crisis that can go when oil and gas expire. Renewable energy can contribute to "social and economic development, energy access, secure energy supply, climate change mitigation, and the reduction of negative environmental and health impacts". Under favourable circumstances, cost savings in comparison to non-renewable energy use exist. History Pr ...

San Diego Journal Of Climate And Energy Law
The ''San Diego Journal of Climate and Energy Law'' is a student-run law review published at the University of San Diego School of Law. The journal primarily publishes articles and comments discussing environmental law and policy with a particular focus on issues relating to climate change and energy.Journal Homepage(Accessed August 22, 2015). History The journal was founded by students at the University of San Diego School of Law who wanted to create the "nation's first student-run law journal focused exclusively on legal aspects of the world's transition to a climate-safe economy."Thomas R. Del Monte, ''Letter from the Founding Editor'', 1 iv (2009). The editor-in-chief of the journal's first issue remarked that he hoped the journal would generate "meaningful discussion that will provide real-world solutions" to problems associated with climate change. The faculty of the university granted approval for the journal in 2008, and the first edition was published in 2009. To generat ...

Energy Security And Net Zero Select Committee
The Energy Security and Net Zero Select Committee is a select committee of the House of Commons in the Parliament of the United Kingdom that came into existence in April 2023. It is the successor to the previous Energy and Climate Change Select Committee, which existed from 2009 to 2016. Formation The House of Commons agreed to the establishment of the Energy and Climate Change Select Committee on 28 October 2008, following the establishment of the Department of Energy and Climate Change on 3 October 2008. The remit of the committee is to examine the expenditure, administration and policy of the department, and any departmental bodies. Reformation As the department was disbanded and merged with the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills, to form the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy in July 2016, the committee was also abolished. The committee was revitalised with the formation of the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero. Candidates for ch ...

Center For Climate And Energy Solutions
The Center for Climate and Energy Solutions (C2ES) is an environmental nonprofit organization based in Arlington, Virginia. Launched in 2011, C2ES is the successor to the Pew Center on Global Climate Change. C2ES lobbies policymakers to promote their preferred policies at the state, national, and international levels. Leadership Nathaniel Keohane became the president of C2ES in July 2021, following roles as Senior Vice President for Climate at the Environmental Defense Fund and as Special Assistant to the President for Energy and Environment under former president Barack Obama. Bob Perciasepe, the former deputy administrator of the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), was the organization's president from 2014 to 2021 and now serves as a senior adviser to C2ES. Perciasepe succeeded Eileen Claussen, the center's founding president. The C2ES board of directors is led by Chair Theodore Roosevelt IV. Climate Change And Sustainable Energy Act 2006
The Climate Change and Sustainable Energy Act 2006 (c 19) is an Act of the Parliament of the United Kingdom which aims to boost the number of heat and electricity microgeneration installations in the United Kingdom, so helping to cut carbon emissions and reduce fuel poverty. The Act was piloted through the House of Commons as a private member's bill by Mark Lazarowicz, MP. The Rt Hon Eric Forth MP, a well known opponent of Private Members' Bills who often filibustered them in Parliament, died during the passage of this bill through Parliament, after having prolonged the debate during Third Reading and Report for a number of days. Microgeneration in the United Kingdom Microgeneration technologies are seen as having considerable potential by the Government. Microgeneration involves the local production of electricity by homes and businesses from low-energy sources including small scale wind turbines, ground source heat pumps and solar electricity installations. The Government ...

Climate Change In Australia
Climate change has been a critical issue in Australia since the beginning of the 21st century. Australia is becoming hotter and more prone to extreme heat, bushfires, droughts, floods, and longer fire seasons because of climate change. Climate issues include wildfires, heatwaves, cyclones, rising sea levels, and erosion. Since the beginning of the 20th century, Australia has experienced an increase of over 1.5 °C in average annual temperatures, with warming occurring at twice the rate over the past 50 years compared with the previous 50 years. Recent climate events such as extremely high temperatures and widespread drought have focused government and public attention on the effects of climate change in Australia. Rainfall in southwestern Australia has decreased by 10–20% since the 1970s, while southeastern Australia has also experienced a moderate decline since the 1990s. Rainfall is expected to become heavier and more infrequent, as well as more common in summer rathe ...
