Bus Monitor
A bus monitor, bus attendant or bus assistant is someone who assumes responsibility for the safety of children on a school bus. Specific tasks may include: * Helping to load students onto the bus * Ensuring students are well behaved * Assisting the driver * Conducting safety drills A bus monitor can also be responsible for people with special needs. These tasks can include but are not limited to: * Loading and unloading wheelchairs * Putting proper safety equipment on riders * Knowledge of their special needs passengers * Ability to stay calm during an emergency Bus monitors are also subjected to meetings and different types of training for the job. The training is for ensuring their knowledge is up to date with safety and others kinds of procedures. It is the bus monitor's responsibility to make sure their passengers make it to their destination safely. Bus Conductor
Bus conductors (also referred to as conductors, or clippies) were a common feature of many bus services across Europe until the late 1970s and early 1980s. The main reason two-person crews were needed was that most towns and cities used double-decker buses for urban services. Until the 1960s, all double deck vehicles were built with front-mounted engines and a "half-cab" design, such as the familiar AEC Routemaster London bus. This layout totally separated the driver from the passenger saloons. The conductor communicated with the driver using a series of bell codes, such as two bells to start (the well-known "ding-ding"). Many half-cab double-deckers were boarded from an open platform at the rear, while others were equipped with a forward entrance and staircase and driver-operated doors. Bus Monitor Bullying Video
"Making The Bus Monitor Cry" is one of three videos filmed in June 2012 which focused on a bus monitor, who was targeted for bullying by four seventh graders attending Greece Athena Middle School. The video went viral and received numerous video responses and news coverage. A donation campaign was launched for the victim. Background The bus monitor, Karen Huff Klein (68 at the time of the filming) was an employee of the Greece Central School District in Upstate New York. After serving 20 years as a bus driver, Klein had been a bus monitor for 3 years. Klein, at the time of the incident, had been a widow since c. 1995 and had eight grandchildren; she was partly deaf and used a hearing aid.
