Bounding Overwatch
Bounding overwatch (also known as leapfrogging, moving overwatch, or the buddy system) is a military tactic of alternating movement of coordinated units to allow, if necessary, suppressive fire in support of offensive forward " fire and movement" or defensive " center peel" disengagement. As members of a unit (element to platoon level) take an overwatch posture, other members advance to cover; these two groups continually switch roles as they close with the enemy. This process may be done by "leapfrogging" with fireteams, but is usually done within fireteams along a squad/platoon battle line to simulate an overwhelming movement towards the enemy and make it more difficult for the enemy to distinguish specific targets. This military tactic takes continuous training and focused coordination to be effectively practiced on the modern battlefield. United States Army Basic Training
United States Army Basic Combat Training (BCT) is the recruit training program of the United States Army, for service in the United States Army, U.S. Army, United States Army Reserve, U.S. Army Reserve, or the Army National Guard. Some trainees attend basic combat training along with their advanced individual training (AIT) at one place, referred to as One Station Unit Training (OSUT). A United States Army infantry recruit should expect a more intense, physically demanding basic training located at Fort Benning, Georgia through One Station Unit Training program that is 22 weeks in duration. Overwatch (military Tactic)
Overwatch is a force protection tactic in modern warfare where one small military unit, military vehicle, vehicle, or military aircraft, aircraft supports another friendly unit while the latter executes fire and movement tactics. The term was neologism, coined in U.S. military doctrine in the 1950s. An ''overwatching'' unit typically takes a vantage position (usually a high ground or tall structure with good defilade) where it can observe the terrain far ahead, especially likely enemy positions and movements. A peel (sometimes nicknamed an Australian peel or Aussie Peeloff) is a type of retreat conducted by infantry which allows them to maintain effective defensive suppressive fire while retreating. Though generally considered a modern-day infantry technique, the concept dates back to Greek and Roman times. This particular tactic is more specifically designed for situations where smaller groups of infantry withdraw from an engagement of a much larger force. Fire and movement, or fire and maneuver, is the basic modern military low-level unit Military tactics, tactic used to maneuver on the battlefield in the presence of the enemy, especially when under fire. It involves heavy use of all available cover, and highly-coordinated exchanges of rapid movement by some elements of the squad (military), squad or platoon while other elements cover this movement with suppressive fire.
