Zoo (dance Troupe)
Zoo were a dance troupe who appeared on the weekly British music series Top of the Pops between 1981 and 1983. Like previous dance troupes Pan's People, Ruby Flipper and their immediate predecessors Legs & Co., Zoo were put together and choreographed by Flick Colby (whose credit on the ''TOTP'' end credit changed from "Choreographer" to "Dance Director" on Zoo's debut). However, unlike the previous troupes, Zoo were formed as a repertory dance group with an ever-changing line-up, featuring a mixture of male and female multi-racial dancers with backgrounds in classical dance, the circus and the disco dancing scene. Zoo were credited as appearing 45 times on TOTP between 5 November 1981 and 29 September 1983, although members of the troupe still appeared on the show in this time and beyond their residence outside their capacity as members of Zoo. Their first appearance on TOTP featured a routine to the Electric Light Orchestra's Twilight. Members As they were styled as a re ...

Top Of The Pops
''Top of the Pops'' (''TOTP'') is a British music chart television programme, made by the BBC and originally broadcast weekly between 1January 1964 and 30 July 2006. The programme was the world's longest-running weekly music show. For most of its history, it was broadcast on Thursday evenings on BBC One. Each show consisted of performances of some of the week's best-selling popular music records, usually excluding any tracks moving down the chart, including a rundown of that week's singles chart. This was originally the Top 20, though this varied throughout the show's history. The Top 30 was used from 1969, and the Top 40 from 1984. Dusty Springfield's " I Only Want to Be with You" was the first song featured on ''TOTP'', while the Rolling Stones were the first band to perform, with " I Wanna Be Your Man". Snow Patrol were the last act to play live on the weekly show when they performed their single " Chasing Cars". Special editions were broadcast on Christmas Day (and us ...

Duran Duran
Duran Duran () are an English rock band formed in Birmingham in 1978 by singer and bassist Stephen Duffy, keyboardist Nick Rhodes and guitarist/bassist John Taylor. With the addition of drummer Roger Taylor the following year the band went through numerous personnel changes before May 1980, when they settled on their most famous line-up by adding guitarist Andy Taylor and lead vocalist Simon Le Bon. When Duran Duran emerged they were generally considered part of the New Romantic scene. Innovators of the music video, Duran Duran were catapulted into the mainstream with the introduction of the 24-hour music channel MTV. The group was a leading band in the MTV-driven Second British Invasion of the US in the 1980s. Photographer Denis O'Regan, who captured the band during their 1984 tour, commented "Duran Duran in America was like Beatlemania." The band's first major hit was " Girls on Film" (1981), from their self-titled debut studio album, the popularity of which was ...

The Glove
The Glove was a 1983 English musical collaboration and recording project by the Cure's Robert Smith and Siouxsie and the Banshees' Steven Severin. They released one studio album, '' Blue Sunshine'', in 1983 as part of Severin's solo deal with Polydor. The latter came up with the band name, the album title and the blue/yellow sleeve concept, as Smith had to leave the project before completion due to prior commitments with the Cure. History Robert Smith and Steven Severin founded the Glove during a period when they were under heavy stress in their respective bands, the Cure and Siouxsie and the Banshees. In June 1982, Smith was on the verge of a breakdown, drained from the production of the Cure's bleakest album, ''Pornography'' and its tour, substance abuse, and band infighting that led to the departure of bassist Simon Gallup. During the summer 1982, Smith asked Severin to play bass on an early version of the Cure's "Lament" for a single given to Flexipop magazine. In Oc ...

Siouxsie And The Banshees
Siouxsie and the Banshees were a British rock band formed in London in 1976 by vocalist Siouxsie Sioux and bass guitarist Steven Severin. They have been widely influential, both over their contemporaries and with later acts. ''Q'' magazine included John McKay's guitar playing on " Hong Kong Garden" in their list of "100 Greatest Guitar Tracks Ever", while ''Mojo'' rated guitarist John McGeoch in their list of "100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time" for his work on " Spellbound". ''The Times'' called the group “one of the most audacious and uncompromising musical adventurers of the post-punk era". Initially associated with the punk scene, the band rapidly evolved to create "a form of post-punk discord full of daring rhythmic and sonic experimentation". Their debut album '' The Scream'' was released in 1978 to widespread critical acclaim. Following membership changes, including the addition of guitarist McGeogh and drummer Budgie, they radically changed their musical dire ...

The Cure
The Cure are an English rock band formed in 1978 in Crawley, West Sussex. Throughout numerous lineup changes since the band's formation, guitarist, lead vocalist, and songwriter Robert Smith has remained the only constant member. The band's debut album, '' Three Imaginary Boys'' (1979), along with several early singles, placed the band in the post-punk and new wave movements that had sprung up in the United Kingdom. Beginning with their second album, '' Seventeen Seconds'' (1980), the band adopted a new, increasingly dark and tormented style, which, together with Smith's stage look, had a strong influence on the emerging genre of gothic rock as well as the subculture that eventually formed around the genre. After the release of the band's fourth album, '' Pornography'' (1982), Smith introduced a greater pop sensibility into the band's music, and they subsequently garnered worldwide mainstream success. Their singles compilation ''Standing on a Beach'' (1986) sold four milli ...

Blue Sunshine (album)
''Blue Sunshine'' is the only studio album by the British supergroup the Glove, released in 1983 by Wonderland Records/Polydor. This album mainly served as a diversion for Robert Smith and Steven Severin when both of them were under heavy stress in their respective bands the Cure and Siouxsie and the Banshees. Since Smith was prohibited from singing in another band by his record company, he and Severin recruited Zoo dancer Jeanette Landray (a former girlfriend of Banshees drummer Budgie) to sing on the majority of the tracks; Smith contractually could only sing on two songs, "Mr. Alphabet Says" and "Perfect Murder". Other musicians involved in this project were drummer Andy Anderson (who had just joined the Cure), multi-instrumentalist Martin McCarrick (who later joined the Banshees), and string players Ginny Hewes and Anne Stephenson (the latter had played for the Banshees on the album '' A Kiss in the Dreamhouse''). Severin wrote the lyrics to all of the songs except " Li ...
