Yellowfin Grouper
The yellowfin grouper (''Mycteroperca venenosa'') is a species of marine ray-finned fish, a grouper from the subfamily Epinephelinae which is part of the Family (biology), family Serranidae, which also includes the Anthiinae, anthias and sea basses. It is found in the warmer waters of the western Atlantic Ocean. Description The yellowfin grouper has a body which is elongate, robust and compressed, its depth being no greater at the origin of the dorsal fin as it is at the origin of the anal fin. The fish measurement, standard length is 2.6 to 2.9 times the depth of the body. The preopercle is neatly rounded. sometimes having a small incision, and does not have a lobe at its angle. Flower Garden Banks National Marine Sanctuary
The Flower Garden Banks National Marine Sanctuary (FGBNMS) is a United States National Marine Sanctuary located off of Galveston, Texas, in the northwestern Gulf of Mexico. It contains the northernmost coral reefs in the United States. Underlying salt domes forced the seafloor upward in various areas of the Gulf of Mexico, resulting in the formation of seamounts and ocean banks. Conditions of the Gulf of Mexico were conducive to reef-building, which started roughly ten to fifteen thousand years ago.
