Windsor's Community Museum
Windsor Community Museum is a historical museum located in Windsor, Ontario, Canada which displays artifacts from Windsor. It is located at François Baby House, built in 1812 by François Baby, a prominent French-Canadian (which is now designated as a National Historic Site). The museum was founded as the Hiram Walker Historical Museum because Hiram Walker and Sons Limited donated a lot of money for the restoration of the Baby House. In 1991 the museum's name was changed to the "François Baby House: Windsor's Community Museum" in an attempt alleviate confusion between the museum and the Hiram Walker Company. Also, the name did not accurately reflect the museum's aim or purpose. In 1996 the museum was given the name Windsor's Community Museum. The name became Museum Windsor in 2016 with the opening of the second location, the Chimczuk Museum (401 Riverside Dr W). The Canadian Museums Association (CMA; french: Association des musées canadiens, ''ACM''), is a national non-profit organization for the promotion of museums in Canada. Battle Of Windsor
The Battle of Windsor was a short-lived campaign in the eastern Michigan area of the United States and the Windsor area of Upper Canada. A group of men on both sides of the border, calling themselves "Patriots", formed small militias in 1837 with the intention of seizing the Southern Ontario peninsula between the Detroit and Niagara Rivers and extending American-style government to Canada. They based groups in Michigan at Fort Gratiot (present Port Huron), Mount Clemens, Detroit, and Gibraltar. The Patriots were defeated by British and American government forces, respectively. Duff Baby House
The Duff Baby House is an historic house located in Windsor, Ontario, Canada. History The house was built between 1792 and 1798 by Alexander Duff as a fur trade post. In 1807 the building was bought by James Baby and it is alleged to have been used as the headquarters of U.S. General Harrison, Colonel Henry Proctor, and General Isaac Brock until it was ravaged by the British during the War of 1812. The two-and-a-half-story timber structure was refinished as Baby's residence in 1816. It is located at 221 Mill Street in Old Sandwich Town, which is the oldest part of Windsor, where settlements date back to the mid-18th century. The Duff Baby House is also one of the best-preserved and oldest Georgian-style houses in Ontario. An artifact, or artefact (see American and British English spelling differences), is a general term for an item made or given shape by humans, such as a tool or a work of art, especially an object of archaeological interest. Hiram Walker
Hiram Walker (July 4, 1816 – January 12, 1899) was an American entrepreneur and founder of the Hiram Walker and Sons Ltd. distillery in Windsor, Ontario, Canada. Walker was born in East Douglas, Massachusetts, and moved to Detroit in 1838. He purchased land across the Detroit River, just east of what is Windsor, Ontario, and established a distillery in 1858 in what would become Walkerville, Ontario. Walker began selling his whisky as Hiram Walker's Club Whisky, in containers that were "clearly marked" and he used a process to make his whisky that was vastly different from all other distillers.
