William Graham (born 1866 in Dreghorn, Scotland) was a footballer who played in the English Football League for Newcastle United and championship winning Preston North End. Graham made his League debut on 8 September 1888 at centre-half for Preston North End against Burnley at Deepdale in Preston; his side won 5–2. Dreghorn
Dreghorn is a village in North Ayrshire, Scotland, east of Irvine town centre, on the old main road from Irvine to Kilmarnock. It is sited on a ridge between two rivers. As archaeological excavations near the village centre have found a significant neolithic settlement provisionally dated to around 3500 BC, as well as medieval structures, scholars have suggested that Dreghorn could be Britain's oldest continuously inhabited village. Both Irvine and Dreghorn have grown in size and they are now separated by the Annick Valley Park, which incorporates a footpath and National Cycle Route 73 on the route of the disused Irvine to Busby railway line. Johnny Graham (footballer, Born 1857)
John Graham (23 February 1857 – 23 February 1927) was a Scottish professional footballer of the 1880s. He was a player for Preston North End from 1884 until 27 March 1890 when he retired because of an injury. He was a member of 'the invincibles'. Career Toughened by his job as a quarryman, Graham initially played with Annbank in the Ayrshire Football Combination, and won one cap for the Scotland national football team in 1884; his appearance was in Scotland'a first–ever British Home Championship match, played on 26 January 1884 at the Ulster Cricket Ground against Ireland – Scotland won 5–0. Graham is the only serving Annbank player to have been selected for international duty. He joined Preston North End in season 1884–85 (moving to England discounted him from further Scotland caps at that time), and played in the 1888 FA Cup Final against West Bromwich Albion at Kennington Oval on 24 March 1888. Deepdale
Deepdale is a football stadium in the Deepdale area of Preston, England, the home of Preston North End. Deepdale is "widely recognised as being the oldest 'continuously used' football stadium in the world, though this is contested". History The land on which the stadium stands was originally Deepdale Farm. It was leased on 21 January 1875 by the town's North End sports club and originally used for cricket and rugby.
