Wicked! (TV Series)
''Wicked!'' is an Australian animated television series based on the book series of the same name by Paul Jennings and Morris Gleitzman. It was co-produced by Energee Entertainment in Sydney, Australia and France Animation (later known as the MoonScoop Group). The series is about two step-siblings named Rory and Dawn as they try to protect their own from viruses caused by the Appleman, a man with a head shaped like a half-eaten apple. It was intended as a "comedy of horrors" aimed at children aged 8 to 13. ''Wicked!'' began with 13 short webisodes released on the eKidz website in late 2000. The series ran for 26 episodes and an 80-minute movie. By the end of 2001, it had become Energee Entertainment's most successful series, with over €8 million in sales. However, the producers were unable to continue the series, as Energee shut down in 2002 due to financial losses from its film ''The Magic Pudding''. Comedy horror, also known as horror comedy, is a literary, television, and film genre that combines elements of comedy and horror fiction. Comedy horror has been described as able to be categorized under three types: "black comedy, parody and spoof." It often crosses over with the black comedy genre. Comedy horror can also parody or subtly spoof horror clichés as its main source of humour or use those elements to take a story in a different direction, for example in ''The Cabin in the Woods'', '' Tucker & Dale vs. Evil'', '' Shaun of the Dead'' or the ''Evil Dead'' franchise. Paul Jennings (Australian Author)
Paul Jennings AM (born 1943), is an English-born Australian children's book writer. His books mainly feature short stories that lead the reader through an unusual series of events that end with a twist. Many of his stories were adapted for the cult classic children's television series '' Round the Twist''. Jennings collaborated with Morris Gleitzman on the book series ''Wicked!'', which was adapted into an animated TV series in 2000. ''The Magic Pudding'' is a 2000 Australian animated musical adventure comedy film loosely adapted from the 1918 book of the same name by Norman Lindsay.
