Welham, Leicestershire
Welham is a small village and civil parish in the Harborough district of Leicestershire, England. Welham lies north-east of Market Harborough. The village is situated on the north bank of the River Welland, which forms the border with the neighbouring county of Northamptonshire. The population is included in the civil parish of Slawston. History The village has been here since before the Norman conquest. Earl Ralph of Hereford who died in 1057 had five ploughs here and someone named Archil had two. Francis Edwards was the Lord of the Manor and he floated the idea of diverting the main London road over the River Welland via the bridge at Welham. He rebuilt the houses on the north side of the road in 1720 and he had an Inn built based on the Red Lion at Northampton. However his cunning plan was not well received. Welham is a hamlet in the civil parish of Clarborough and Welham, of Bassetlaw district, in the county of Nottinghamshire, England. It is 130 miles north of London, 28 miles north east of the city of Nottingham, and 2 miles north east of the market town of Retford. There are 7 listed buildings in Welham. Welham Boys' School is a boarding school located in Dehradun, India. The school is a residential school for boys and is affiliated with CBSE. It is ranked amongst the top five boys' boarding schools in the country as per the Education World rankings 2021. History Welham was founded in 1937 as a preparatory school for boarding schools in England and India, by Miss Oliphant, an English lady, with a capital of £1000. There were no funds or staff, and no school buildings. Miss Oliphant recruited another retired English lady, Miss Grace Mary Linnell, to run the boarding school for girls, and Miss Linnell became the Founder-Principal of Welham Girls School. Welham Girls' School is a private boarding school for girls located in Dehradun, Uttarakhand, India. History The school was established in 1957. Welham was named after the little Welsh village from where its founder, H.S. Oliphant hailed. A retired English headmistress, Oliphant started Welham Boys' School in 1937. She was struck by The Lawrence School, Sanawar and lack of schools of similar quality for the girls around Dehradun. She acquired a palatial estate called Nasreen adjacent to Welham Boys' School to start a small boarding school for girls. There were no funds, staff, or school buildings. Oliphant recruited another retired English woman, Grace Mary Linnel, to run the boarding school for girls. Linnel became the founder principal of Welham Girls School, which started in 1957. Kris Welham (born 10 March 1987) is an English rugby league footballer who plays as a for Sheffield Eagles in the RFL Championship and the England Knights at international level. He has played for Hull Kingston Rovers in the Super League and the Bradford Bulls in the Kingstone Press Championship. Tom Welham
Thirteen Senses are a post-Britpop band from Penzance, Cornwall. The group released the album '' The Invitation'' on 27 September 2004, along with several singles: "Thru the Glass", "Do No Wrong", "Into the Fire" and "The Salt Wound Routine", of which the first three reached the top 40 of the UK Singles Chart. Their second album, ''Contact'', was released in April 2007. Thirteen Senses are the only Cornish band to have a top 20 single. History Thirteen Senses started out as Soul Magician, that began in school when Will South started writing songs which he showed Adam Wilson. He in turn liked the songs and left the other band he was in at the time. Soul Magician took off when South and Wilson met Tom Welham. The latter knew Brendon James and they all became friends. Dirk MacDonald Wellham (born 13 March 1959) is a former Australian cricketer who played in six Test matches and 17 One Day Internationals (ODIs) between 1981 and 1987. He is one of three players to score a century in both his first class and Test debuts. He was the first player to captain three Australian states having captained New South Wales, Tasmania and Queensland during his career.
