Watrous (former Electoral District)
Watrous was a provincial electoral district for the Legislative Assembly of the province of Saskatchewan, Canada, in the area of Watrous, Saskatchewan, east of Saskatoon. Created as "Vonda" before the 2nd Saskatchewan general election in 1908, this constituency was redrawn and renamed "Watrous" in 1934. This riding was abolished and absorbed into the Arm River district before the 18th Saskatchewan general election in 1975. Another provincial electoral district named " Watrous" existed from 1995 to 2003. Frank Stephen Krenn
Frank Stephen Krenn (July 30, 1911 – after 1965) was a civil servant, journalist and political figure in Saskatchewan. He represented Watrous from 1938 to 1944 in the Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan as a Liberal. He was born in Wilmont, Saskatchewan, the son of Joseph Krenn and Mary Winkels, both of German descent, and was educated at St. Peter's College. His parents had both died when he was seven. In 1937, Krenn married Sybilus Smith. He lived in Bruno, Saskatchewan. Saskatchewan Progressive Conservative Party
The Progressive Conservative Party of Saskatchewan is a conservative political party in the Canadian province of Saskatchewan. Prior to 1942, it was known as the Conservative Party of Saskatchewan. Members are commonly known as Tories. History Early years, 1905–1934 It was the Saskatchewan successor to the eastern half of the North-West Territories Conservatives. The Conservative Party of Saskatchewan's first leader, Frederick W. A. G. Haultain, was so upset at sections of the federal legislation that created the province relating to immigration, education, and natural resources that he renamed the party the Provincial Rights Party for the 1905 and 1908 general elections. 1912 Saskatchewan General Election
The 1912 Saskatchewan general election was held on July 11, 1912 to elect members of the Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan. Premier Walter Scott led the Liberal Party of Saskatchewan to a third term in office with a significant increase in the share of the popular vote. The opposition, now renamed from the Provincial Rights Party to the Conservative Party of Saskatchewan and led by Wellington Bartley Willoughby, lost both votes and seats in the legislature. Provincial Rights Party
The Provincial Rights Party was a Canadian political party founded and led by Frederick W. A. G. Haultain in 1905 to contest elections in the new province of Saskatchewan. It was the successor to the eastern branch of the Northwest Territories Conservative Party. Haultain had been Premier of the North-West Territories prior to the province's creation. He hoped to lead a government in the place of the Saskatchewan Liberal Party, which was backed by the federal government of Wilfrid Laurier. In the 1905 election, the Provincial Rights Party won nine seats and 47% of the vote, and the Liberals won 16 seats and 52% of the vote. In the 1908 election, to an expanded 41 seat legislature, the Provincial Rights Party won 14 seats with 47% of the vote, losing again to the Liberals. Saskatchewan Party
The Saskatchewan Party is a centre-right political party in the Canadian province of Saskatchewan. Since 2007, it has been the province's governing party; both the party and the province are currently led by Premier Scott Moe. The party was established in 1997 by a coalition of former provincial Progressive Conservative and Liberal party members and supporters who sought to remove the Saskatchewan New Democratic Party (NDP) from power. Donna Harpauer is a Canadian provincial politician. She was the Saskatchewan Party member of the Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan for the constituency of Humboldt and won the seat for the new riding of Humboldt-Watrous in the 2020 election. Donald William Cody
Donald William Cody (born March 28, 1936) is a business owner and former political figure in Saskatchewan. He represented Watrous from 1971 to 1975 and Kinistino from 1978 to 1982 in the Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan as a New Democratic Party (NDP) member He was born in Pilger, Saskatchewan, the son of Edward Cody and Rosella Wirtz, and was educated there. Cody then worked as a telegraph operator for the Canadian Pacific Railway. In 1961, he married Joan Eileen Germsheid. Percy Schmeiser
Percy Schmeiser (5 January 193113 October 2020) was a Canadian businessman, farmer, and politician. In 1954, he took over the operations of the family owned farm, gas station, and farm equipment dealership. He renamed the farm equipment dealership Schmeiser's Garage and added a second farm equipment dealership in Humboldt, Saskatchewan (Central Farm Sales) in 1986 and oversaw their operations until their sale in 2003. He became an international symbol and spokesperson for independent farmers' rights and the regulation of transgenic crops during his protracted legal battle with multinational agrichemical company Monsanto.
