Final results for the water polo tournament at the 1924 Summer Olympics. All medals were decided by using the Bergvall system. Medal summary Note: The players above the line played at least one game in this tournament, the players below the line were reserve players and did not compete in this tournament. Nevertheless thInternational Olympic Committee medal databaseexclusively credits them all as medalists. However the official report did not even count them as competitors. Maurice Blitz
Maurice Blitz (28 July 1891 – 2 February 1975) was a Belgian Olympic water polo player during the 1920s. He was born in Paris. He was the older brother of sporting champion Gérard Blitz, and father of Gérard Blitz who founded Club Med in 1950. Maurice Blitz and his brother Gérard were both member of the Belgian water polo national team who won silver in two consecutive olympic events, in 1920 and 1924. Maurice Blitz, who was Jewish, did not leave the water polo scene once he retired from competitions. He became an international referee (he conducted the Olympic final in 1928), and was a member of the Belgian Olympic Committee and swimming federation. In 1948, he founded the swimming and waterpolo club Zwemclub Scaldis in Antwerp. He was one of the early financial supporters of Club Med, founded by his son Gérard in 1950. George Mitchell (water Polo)
George Frederick Mitchell (April 23, 1901 – November 3, 1988) was an American water polo player who competed in the 1924 Summer Olympics and in the 1928 Summer Olympics. In 1924 he won the bronze medal with the American water polo team. He played all five matches. Four years later he was a member of the American team which finished fifth in the 1928 Olympic water polo tournament. He played both matches. In 1980, he was inducted into the USA Water Polo Hall of Fame. He died in Alameda, California. Fred Lauer
Frederick W. Lauer (October 13, 1898 – December 17, 1960) was an American water polo player who competed in the 1924 Summer Olympics, in the 1932 Summer Olympics, and in the 1936 Summer Olympics. In 1924 he was part of the American team which won the bronze medal. He played all five matches as goalkeeper. Eight years later he was a squad member of the American team which won the bronze medal again. He did not participate in a match and was not awarded with a medal. In 1936 he was eliminated in the first round with the American team. He played one match as goalkeeper. In 1979, he was inducted into the USA Water Polo Hall of Fame. Jean-Pierre Vermetten (born 6 February 1895, date of death unknown) was a Belgian freestyle swimmer and water polo player who competed in the 1920 Summer Olympics and in the 1924 Summer Olympics.
