Now Or Never (Yoko Ono Song)
"Now or Never" is a song written by Yoko Ono that was first released on her 1973 album '' Approximately Infinite Universe''. It was also the lead single off the album, backed by "Move on Fast." A remixed version of "Move on Fast" was later released as a single and reached #1 on the ''Billboard'' Dance Club Songs chart. "Now or Never" is a political song. According to John Lennon's biographer Peter Doggett, the lyrics of "Now or Never" sum up Ono's philosophy that "Dream you dream alone is just a dream/But dream we dream together is reality." '' Cash Box'' described it as having "a delicate social commentary with an extremely important message that should be heard by all." ''New York Times'' music critic Stephen Holden described this line as expressing a " Beatles-style utopianism." A Yoko Ono press release described the song as a "wistful wake-up call to a tuned-out, slacked-off America." Vietnam War historian Lee Andresen considered the song to be a protest against the war ...

Fly (Yoko Ono Album)
''Fly'' is the second album by Yoko Ono, released in 1971. Co-produced by Ono and John Lennon, the original release was a complete avant-garde/Fluxus package in a gatefold sleeve that came with a full-size poster and a postcard to order Ono's 1964 book ''Grapefruit''. Notable songs include the singles "Midsummer New York" and " Mrs. Lennon", "Hirake" (a.k.a. "Open Your Box") and " Don't Worry, Kyoko (Mummy's Only Looking for Her Hand in the Snow)", that was dedicated to Ono's daughter Kyoko Cox. "Airmale", that benefits from the automated noise music machines of Fluxus musician Joe Jones, is the soundtrack to Lennon's film ''Erection'', showing a building being erected in time lapsed photography, while "Fly" is the soundtrack to Lennon and Ono's 1970 film ''Fly''. The entire side three of this LP has Ono performing with various automated sound-machines created by Joe Jones pictured in the gatefold. Recording The album was recorded around the same time as Lennon's ''Imagine''. O ...

Midsummer New York
"Midsummer New York" is a song written by Yoko Ono that was released as the opening song of her 1971 album '' Fly'' and also as the b-side of the single " Mrs. Lennon." Lyrics and music "Midsummer New York" is based on the Elvis Presley song "Heartbreak Hotel." Norma Coates explains that the song begins as an "old-fashioned rock song" borrowing the melody and rhythm from "Heartbreak Hotel" as well as elements from the earlier song's accompaniment. But the references to early rock 'n' roll are undermined by Ono's vocal performance and by the lyrics. The lyrics express "female dread, fear and pain." Ben Urish and Ken Bielen interpret the lyrics as reflecting the "physical and psychological effects of a nightmarish panic attack. Coates feels that Ono's projection of these emotions are enhanced by the continual repetition of the word "shake" and "shaking." Ono restricts her vocal range and even when she nearly screams her words, Coates finds her voice to sound "oddly stifled." M ...

Imagine (John Lennon Album)
''Imagine'' is the second studio album by English musician John Lennon, released on 9 September 1971 by Apple Records. Co-produced by Lennon, his wife Yoko Ono and Phil Spector, the album's lush sound contrasts the basic, small-group arrangements of his first album, '' John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band'' (1970), while the opening title track is widely considered to be his signature song. Lennon recorded the album from early to mid-1971 at Ascot Sound Studios, Abbey Road Studios and the Record Plant in New York City, with supporting musicians that included his ex-Beatles bandmate George Harrison, keyboardist Nicky Hopkins, bassist Klaus Voormann and drummers Alan White and Jim Keltner. Its lyrics reflect peace, love, politics, Lennon's experience with primal scream therapy, and, following a period of high personal tensions, an attack on his former writing partner Paul McCartney in " How Do You Sleep?" Extensive footage from the sessions was recorded for a scrapped documentary; p ...

Yoko Ono/Plastic Ono Band
''Yoko Ono/Plastic Ono Band'' is the debut studio album by Japanese artist and musician Yoko Ono, released on Apple Records in December 1970. It was released simultaneously with her husband's album ''John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band''. Backed by the Plastic Ono Band and, on one track, the Ornette Coleman Quartet, it followed the release of three experimental albums with Lennon and a live album from the 1969 version of the Plastic Ono Band. In the United States, it peaked at number 182 on the ''Billboard'' Top LPs chart. Recording With the exception of "AOS", a 1968 recording, Ono's album was recorded at Abbey Road Studios during the same September–October 1970 sessions that produced the ''John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band'' album. Also recorded at this time was "Between the Takes", which was released on the 1998 CD reissue of Ono's ''Fly'' album. Why (Yoko Ono Song)
"Why" is a song written by Yoko Ono that was first released on her 1970 '' Yoko Ono/Plastic Ono Band'' album. In the U.S. it was also released as the B-side of John Lennon's "Mother" single, taken from his ''John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band'' album. Lyrics and music Beatle biographer John Blaney described the song as "a raucous conflation of avant-gardism and rock 'n' roll". ''The Atlantic'' critic James Parker called it "a gibbering, snarling swath of experimental rock, wild but recognizable, in the vein of German pioneers like Can or Faust". The lyrics of "Why" consist of Ono repeating the word "why" over and over again. Ono also intersperses some non-verbal vocalizations. ''Pitchfork'' critic Seth Colter Walls notes that Ono uses a variety of vocal approaches, including "long expressions full of vibrato", "shorter exhalations, rooted in the back of the throat" and "spates of shredded laughter" that according to Walls express "absurdist good humor". Music journalist John Krut ...
