Wally Clark (Australian Footballer)
Wally Clark (born 25 May 1936) was an Australian rules footballer who played for Fitzroy in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Fitzroy Clark, who was at Fitzroy from underage level, played as a rover. He was their top goal-kicker with 21 goals in 1962 but had his best goal kicking year when he bagged 33 two years earlier. Although he retired from the seniors in 1963, Clark continued in the Fitzroy reserves as captain-coach and won a Gardiner Medal for his on field performances. Saturday, 6 July 1963 Clark coached the senior Fitzroy side for only one match. Fitzroy Football Club
The Fitzroy Football Club is an Australian rules football club currently competing in the Victorian Amateur Football Association (VAFA). Formed in 1883 to represent the inner-Melbourne municipality of Fitzroy, the club was a member of the Victorian Football Association (VFA), before becoming a foundation member of the breakaway Victorian Football League (VFL/AFL) in 1897. Fitzroy won a total of eight VFL premierships, of which seven (1898, 1899, 1904, 1905, 1913, 1916 and 1922) were won whilst they were nicknamed the Maroons and one (1944) as the Gorillas. The decision of the club to change its nickname to the Lions in 1957 coincided with what history now records as the beginning of decades of poor on-field performance and financial losses that eventually resulted in the club being placed into administration, ultimately leaving the AFL at the end of the 1996 season. John Devine (Australian Rules Footballer)
John Herbert Devine (22 June 1940 – 29 January 2023) was an Australian rules footballer who played with Geelong in the Victorian Football League (VFL) during the 1960s, and Tasmanian Football League (TFL) side North Hobart between 1967 and 1974. Australian rules football career A defender, Devine was recruited to as a 20-year-old from Colac, and he made his debut for Geelong against Footscray in round 1 of the 1960 VFL season. Devine would quickly become an integral part of a rising Geelong team. On 6 July 1963, he was a member of the Geelong team that were comprehensively and unexpectedly beaten by Fitzroy, 9.13 (67) to 3.13 (31) in the 1963 Miracle Match. Brian Pert
Brian Thomas Pert (born 28 January 1936) is a former Australian rules footballer who played for Fitzroy in the VFL. Family The son of Thomas Arthur Pert (1905-1961), and Grace Dorothy Pert (1905-1994), née Condick, Brian Thomas Pert was born on 28 January 1936. He married Valerie Thelma Ballantyne (1938-) in 1960. His son Gary was a best and fairest winner with Fitzroy. Football Cleared from Preston Scouts to Fitzroy in April 1953, Pert usually played at half-back or as a wingman. He missed many games due to injury and despite spending 12 seasons with Fitzroy he managed to play only 125 games. Norman Brown (6 August 1943 – 1 December 2022) was an Australian rules footballer who played with Fitzroy in the VFL. Football Fitzroy (VFL) Brown joined Fitzroy from North Heidelberg in 1962. Known for his size (191 cm), physical strength and courage, he was not particularly pretty to watch. John Yeates (born 30 August 1938) is a former Australian rules footballer who played with Geelong in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Family His son Mark played at Geelong in the 1980s and became famous for his part in the 1989 VFL Grand Final. Fred Wooller
Fred Wooller (born 21 October 1938) is a former Australian rules footballer who played with Geelong in the VFL. Football Recruited from Bacchus Marsh, Wooller started his career as a full forward and topped Geelong's goalkicking with 56 goals in 1957, his tally being the equal second highest in the league for that season. Roy West (footballer)
Roy West (31 March 1941 – 19 November 2011) was an Australian rules footballer for the Geelong Football Club in the Victorian Football League (VFL) during the 1960s. West was a fullback and won the 1961 Carji Greeves Medal for Geelong's best and fairest player. On 6 July 1963 he was a member of the Geelong team that were comprehensively and unexpectedly beaten by Fitzroy, 9.13 (67) to 3.13 (31) in the 1963 Miracle Match. Pavel "Paul" Vinar (24 March 1940 – 20 May 2009) was an Australian rules footballer who played with Geelong in the VFL during the 1960s. Family Vinar was born in Czechoslovakia, and moved to Geelong in Australia with his mother and four brothers after his father was killed in World War II. Despite being Czech, his nickname was Swede. Football He was renowned for his long kicking ability. A highly regarded defender and occasional ruckman, he was also a nationally recognised long kicking champion considered to have the longest and most accurate kick of his era. Stewart Lord
Stewart Lord (9 April 1940 - 4 March 2022) was an Australian rules footballer who played with Geelong in the VFL during the early 1960s. He was the twin brother of Brownlow Medal winning teammate Alistair Lord. Lord usually played at halfback although he played his first season in the forward line when he kicked all of his 13 career goals. On 6 July 1963 he was a member of the Geelong team that were comprehensively and unexpectedly beaten by Fitzroy, 9.13 (67) to 3.13 (31) in the 1963 Miracle Match.
