WCHA Most Valuable Player In Tournament
The WCHA Most Outstanding Player in Tournament was an annual award given out at the conclusion of the WCHA tournament to the best player in the championship as voted by the head coaches of each member team. The Tournament MVP was first awarded in 1988 and every year thereafter. The award was changed from 'most valuable' to 'most outstanding' for the 2017 tournament. Travis Richards
Travis John Richards (born March 22, 1970) is an American former professional ice hockey defenseman. He played briefly in the National Hockey League with the Dallas Stars. Richards played ten seasons for the minor-league Grand Rapids Griffins. He is the first player with his jersey retired by the club, and was the only until Michel Picard's uniform was retired on February 19, 2022 Playing career Richards graduated from Robbinsdale Armstrong High School in Plymouth, Minnesota in 1988. North Dakota Fighting Sioux Men's Ice Hockey
The North Dakota Fighting Hawks men's ice hockey team (UND) is the college ice hockey team at the Grand Forks campus of the University of North Dakota. They are members of the National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC) and compete in National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I ice hockey. North Dakota is widely regarded as a premier college hockey school and has one of the most storied programs in NCAA history. UND has made over 30 appearances in the NCAA tournament, appeared in the Frozen Four 22 times, and has won 8 NCAA Division I Championships. David Hoogsteen
David Hoogsteen (born November 10, 1974) is a Canadian retired ice hockey coach and center who was an All-American for North Dakota. Career Hoogsteen played junior hockey for his hometown Thunder Bay Flyers. Over three seasons he increased his point total, finishing as the team's leading scorer in 1995 and helping them win the Dudley Hewitt Cup. The following year he began attending the University of North Dakota, joining his brother Kevin on the ice hockey team. In his first season with the Fighting Sioux, Hoogsteen provided depth scoring but came into his own during his sophomore year. UND shot up the standings, finishing atop the WCHA standings for the first time in a decade and went on to win the conference championship. Centre (ice Hockey)
The centre (or center in the United States) in ice hockey is a forward position of a player whose primary zone of play is the middle of the ice, away from the sideboards. Centres have more flexibility in their positioning and therefore often end up covering more ice surface than any other player. Centres are ideally strong, fast skaters who are able to back-check quickly from deep in the opposing zone. Generally, centres are expected to be gifted passers more so than goal scorers, although there are exceptions - typically larger centres who position themselves directly in front of the net in order to score off rebounds. Brian Raymond Bonin (born November 28, 1973) is an American former professional ice hockey center. He was drafted in the ninth round, 211th overall, by the Pittsburgh Penguins in the 1992 NHL Entry Draft. Playing career After being named Minnesota Mr. Hockey in 1992 for his play at White Bear Lake Area High School, Bonin entered the University of Minnesota. His stellar time with the Golden Gophers culminated with winning the Hobey Baker Award, given to the most outstanding collegiate hockey player in the NCAA, in his senior season. Kirk Daubenspeck
Kirk Daubenspeck (born July 21, 1974) is an American retired ice hockey goaltender who was an All-American for Wisconsin. Career Daubenspeck was drafted by the Philadelphia Flyers in 1992 straight out of Culver Military Academy. He spent the following season playing in the USHL before beginning his college career with the Wisconsin Badgers. After playing just seven games in his freshman season, Daubenspeck's rights were traded along with Claude Boivin to the Ottawa Senators for Mark Lamb. Entering his sophomore season, Daubenspeck got into a competition to replace the departed Jim Carey as the Badger's primary starter. He won the job and remained as Wisconsin's top goalie for the rest of his time in Madison. In his first year as the starter, Daubenspeck won 23 games and helped Wisconsin win the WCHA championship for which he was named tournament MVP. 1995 WCHA Men's Ice Hockey Tournament
The 1995 WCHA Men's Ice Hockey Tournament was the 36th conference playoff in league history and 43rd season where a WCHA champion was crowned. The tournament was played between March 10 and March 18, 1995. First round games were played at home team campus sites while all 'Final Five' matches were held at the Civic Center in St. Paul, Minnesota. By winning the tournament, Wisconsin was awarded the Broadmoor Trophy and received the WCHA's automatic bid to the 1995 NCAA Division I Men's Ice Hockey Tournament. Format The first round of the postseason tournament featured a best-of-three games format. All ten conference teams participated in the tournament and were seeded No. 1 through No. 10 according to their final conference standing, with a tiebreaker system used to seed teams with an identical number of points accumulated. Chris McAlpine
Christopher Walter McAlpine (born December 1, 1971) is an American former professional hockey player who played in the NHL with the New Jersey Devils, St. Louis Blues, Tampa Bay Lightning, Atlanta Thrashers, Chicago Blackhawks, and Los Angeles Kings. He played defense and shot right-handed. Playing career McAlpine was drafted by the New Jersey Devils in the 7th round, 137th overall in the 1990 NHL Entry Draft. After being drafted he played for the University of Minnesota for 4 years, scoring 30 points in 36 games his final year there. He made his debut in the NHL during the 1994–1995 season when he split the year with the Devils and the Albany River Rats of the AHL.
