Venues Of The 2010 Summer Youth Olympics
The 2010 Summer Youth Olympics were held in Singapore from 14 to 26 August 2010. A total of 3,600 athletes from 204 National Olympic Committees (NOCs) participated in 201 events in 26 sports. Events took place at eighteen competition venues, of which eleven were pre-existing venues, one was newly constructed for the Olympics, and six were temporary venues that would be removed following the Games. Another twelve venues were set aside for training purposes. The Youth Olympic Village was a separate non-competitive venue that provided accommodation and activities for the athletes. The Singapore Youth Olympic Games Organising Committee (SYOGOC) organised the Games, which the city-state of Singapore won the bid to host on 21 February 2008. East Coast Park
East Coast Park is a beach and a park encompassing Marine Parade, Bedok and Tampines, along the southeastern coast of Singapore. It was opened in the 1970s, after the Singapore government had completed reclaiming land off the coast at Katong which extends from Changi to Kallang. It serves these and other seaside communities. At the 2010 Summer Youth Olympics, 36 athletics events were contested – 18 for boys and 18 for girls – on 17–19 and 21–23 August 2010. The events took place in Bishan Stadium, Singapore. Athletes born between January 1, 1993, and December 31, 1994, were eligible to compete. Continents selected their athletes through Youth Continental Championships (Continental Youth Olympic Trials). While most events mirrored those at the Summer Olympic Games, some events were distinct from the Games' senior counterpart. A 1000 metres race was scheduled in place of the more traditional 800/1,500 metres races. The steeplechase was held over 2000 m, instead of the seniors' 3000 m distance, and the competition featured a medley relay with legs of 100 m, 200 m, 300 m and 400 m (in the Swedish style). Bishan Stadium is a multi-purpose stadium in Bishan, Singapore. It is currently used mostly for football matches. The stadium was constructed in 1998 and is managed by Sport Singapore. The public can use the facilities from 4:30 am to 8:30 pm daily unless it is exclusively booked for a sporting event. Basketball at the 2010 Summer Youth Olympics was contested by 20 teams each in the boys' and girls' tournament. The tournaments followed the FIBA 3x3 rules and was held at the Youth Space, Singapore. Major rules * Only half of the basketball court is used for the game. * Each team consists of 3 players and 1 substitute. * Game time: Two 5-minute periods or a team scores 33 points or more, whichever comes first. If tied at the end of regulation, 2-minute overtimes are used until the tie is broken or a team reaches 33 points. * Team must attempt a shot for goal in 10 seconds. * Ball must be taken out of the 3-point line and touched by 2 teammates (ball receiver/dribbler and 1 other teammate) before a shot can be attempted.
