Venetia Burney
Venetia Katharine Douglas Burney (married name Phair, 11 July 1918 – 30 April 2009) was an English accountant and teacher. She is remembered as the first person to suggest the name Pluto for the dwarf planet discovered by Clyde Tombaugh in 1930. At the time, she was 11 years old. Biography Venetia Burney was the daughter of Rev. Charles Fox Burney, Oriel Professor of the Interpretation of Holy Scripture at Oxford, and his wife Ethel Wordsworth Burney (née Madan). She was the granddaughter of Falconer Madan (1851–1935), Librarian of the Bodleian Library of the University of Oxford. Falconer Madan's brother, Henry Madan (1838–1901), Science Master of Eton, had in 1878 suggested the names Phobos and Deimos for the moons of Mars. On 14 March 1930, Falconer Madan read the story of the new planet's discovery in ''The Times'', and mentioned it to his granddaughter Venetia. Venetia Dearden (born 1975) is a British photographer and filmmaker. Her books include ''Somerset Stories, Fivepenny Dreams'' (2008), ''Glastonbury, Another Stage'' (2010), ''Mulberry 40 Years'' (2011) and ''Eight Days'' (2012). Dearden had a solo exhibition of her Glastonbury photographs at the National Portrait Gallery, London, National Portrait Gallery in London in 2010 and was awarded the Vic Odden Award from the Royal Photographic Society in 2011. Her work is held in the collection of the National Portrait Gallery. Biography Dearden was born in Brecon, Wales. She grew up in Somerset, England. She has an MA in Anthropology, Comparative Religion and History of Art from the University of Edinburgh (1998) and undertook postgraduate studies in Photojournalism at the London College of Printing (1999–2000). Venetia James
Mary Venetia James (; 4 June 1861 – 2 May 1948) was a London society hostess and racehorse breeder. Early life James was born into the Cavendish-Bentinck family, the daughter of Prudentia (née Leslie) and George Cavendish-Bentinck (1821–1891). Her brother was William George Cavendish-Bentinck (1854–1909) and they were related to the dukes of Portland, with the dukedom eventually passing to her nephews, Ferdinand and Victor; she was also a relative and godmother of Queen Elizabeth. In 1872, the 11-year-old Mary Venetia Cavendish-Bentinck had been a bridesmaid at the wedding of Christina Nilsson, a famous opera singer of the period. The wedding was a high society affair, arranged by Venetia's father in Westminster Abbey, London. Venetia Anastasia Digby (née Stanley) (December 1600 – 1 May 1633) was a celebrated beauty of the Stuart period and the wife of a prominent courtier and scientist, Kenelm Digby. She was a granddaughter of Thomas Percy, 7th Earl of Northumberland. and a great- granddaughter of Edward Stanley, 3rd Earl of Derby. Beatrice Venetia Stanley Montagu (22 August 1887 – 3 August 1948) was a British aristocrat and socialite best known for the many letters that Prime Minister H. H. Asquith wrote to her between 1910 and 1915. Life The youngest daughter of Edward Lyulph Stanley, 4th Baron Sheffield and Stanley of Alderley, Venetia was a namesake and collateral descendant of Venetia Stanley (1600–1633). Venetia met Asquith through her close friendship with his daughter, Violet. Asquith, who enjoyed writing letters to women in high society, began his correspondence with Venetia in 1910. However, Venetia was just one of several women who received Asquith's letters until 1912, when she went on a trip to Sicily with Asquith, Violet and Edwin Montagu, a Liberal MP who was one of Asquith's protégés. Venetia Williams (born 10 May 1960) is an English racehorse trainer specialising in National Hunt racing. She is based at stables at Aramstone in Herefordshire, England. Williams was born at Scorrier House, Cornwall and began as a racehorse trainer at Ty-Pengam. She was an amateur National Hunt jockey until forced to retire after suffering a broken neck in 1988. She worked for racehorse trainers Martin Pipe and John Edwards before taking up a licence to train herself in 1995. Her most successful horse to date has been Mon Mome, winner of the 2009 Grand National. This victory made her only the second female trainer to win the race, after Jenny Pitman.
