Vasily Vladimirovich Petrov
Vasily Vladimirovich Petrov (russian: Василий Владимирович Петров) ( – 15 August 1834) was a Russian experimental physicist, self-taught electrical technician, academician of Russian Academy of Sciences (since 1809; Corresponding member since 1802). Vasily Petrov was born in the town of Oboyan (of the Belgorod Province, currently Kursk Oblast of Russia) in the family of a priest. He studied at a public school in Kharkov, and then at the St. Petersburg Teacher's College. In 1788, he gained a position as mathematics and physics teacher at Kolyvansko-Voskresenskoe College of Mining, in the town of Barnaul. In 1791, he was transferred to Saint Petersburg to teach mathematics and Russian at the military Engineering College, in the Izmailovsky regiment. In 1793, Petrov was invited to teach mathematics and physics at the St. Petersburg Medical and Surgery School, at the military hospital. Vasily Petrov (marshal)
Vasiliy Ivanovich Petrov (russian: Васи́лий Ива́нович Петро́в; – 1 February 2014) was a Russian military official and Marshal of the Soviet Union. Background Petrov was born in 1917 in Chernolesskoye, Stavropol Governorate. He completed high school in 1935 and studied for two years at a teacher training institute until 1937. Petrov joined the Red Army in 1939 and completed the lieutenant's course in 1941. During World War II, he fought in the defence of Odessa, defence of Sevastopol and the Campaign in the Caucasus. He later took part in the liberation of Ukraine (was part of the USSR) and the invasion of Romania, in addition to the Budapest Offensive in Hungary. After the war, Petrov completed Military Studies at the Frunze Military Academy in Moscow. He subsequently rose through the Soviet military ranks, being promoted to Colonel in 1952, Major General in 1961, Lieutenant General in 1965, Colonel General in 1970 and General in 1972. In 198 ...

Vasily Stepanovich Petrov
Vasily Stepanovich Petrov (russian: Василий Степанович Петров; 5 March 1922 15 April 2003) was an officer in the Red Army who lost both his hands during the Battle for the Burkin Bridgehead. After becoming a double amputee he continued to serve in World War II. For his actions in the war he was twice been awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union and promoted to the rank of major. Despite his injuries, he went on to become a general and hold a variety of command posts. Early life Petrov was born in 1922 to a Russian peasant family in the village of Dmitrovka, located in present-day Ukraine. His father Stepan Petrov, who had fought on the side of the white guards during the civil war, was arrested when Vasily was a young child.
