Vangelis Margaritis
Evangelos "Vangelis" Margaritis (alternate spellings: Evaggelos, Vaggelis) ( el, Ευάγγελος "Βαγγέλης" Μαργαρίτης, link=no; born December 5, 1982) is a Greek professional basketball player and the team captain for PAOK of the Greek Basket League and the Basketball Champions League. He is 6 ft 8 in (2.03 m) tall, and he can play at either the power forward or center positions. Professional career Some of the clubs that Margaritis has played with during his career include: Iraklis, Ionikos Nikaias, Peristeri, KAOD, and PAOK. He renewed his contract with PAOK in 2013. In 2015, he eventually became PAOK's team captain. In 2015, he also extended his contract with PAOK, through the 2017–18 season. Gymnasticos Syllogos Iraklis ( el, Γυμναστικός Σύλλογος Ηρακλής, en, Gymnastics Club Heracles), commonly referred to as Iraklis, is a Greek multi-sports club based in Thessaloniki. The club was founded in 1908 as "Macedonikos Gymnasticos Syllogos" (''Macedonian Gymnastics Club'') and is one of the oldest and most historic sports-clubs in Greece. The EuroBasket 2022 qualification was a basketball competition that was played from November 2017 to February 2021, to determine the 20 FIBA Europe nations who would join the automatically qualified co-hosts Czech Republic, Georgia, Italy, and Germany at the EuroBasket 2022 finals tournament. Pre-Qualifiers The EuroBasket 2022 Pre-Qualifiers were played by 17 teams over three rounds. The best eight teams advanced to the EuroBasket 2022 Qualifiers. First round The pre-qualifiers first round was played by nine teams: Five eliminated in the 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup pre-qualifiers, and four teams that did not enter in those qualifiers. The 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup qualification for the FIBA Europe region, began in August 2017 and concluded in February 2019. Contrary to previous years, no teams were automatically placed into the World Cup, so all FIBA Europe nations had to participate in qualification. Format FIBA Europe was allocated 12 berths at the World Cup. In total, 37 FIBA Europe teams took part in the qualification tournament. The Greece men's national basketball team ( el, Eθνική Oμάδα Καλαθοσφαίρισης Ελλάδος) represents Greece in international basketball.
