Valtinho Da Silva
Válter Apolinário da Silva (31 January 1977), commonly known as Valtinho da Silva, or simply Valtinho, is a Brazilian former professional basketball player. Born in Rio Claro, he played at the point guard position, and he is considered one of the last classical point guards of Brazilian basketball. Recognized for being a player who had responsibility in defining moments, he knew how to control the dynamics of the game, always controlling the pace of his team on the court. Professional career Valtinho was the conductor of Uberlândia, and beside the head coach Helio Rubens Garcia, and his son, Helio Rubens Filho, won the 2004 Brazilian national league title, beating Flamengo in the finals series 3–0. After the 2007 Pan American Games, Valtinho moved to Vasco da Gama, to compete for the state championship in Rio de Janeiro, where he was defeated by his greatest team rival, Flamengo. Rio Claro, São Paulo
Rio Claro is a city in the state of São Paulo in Brazil. The elevation is 613 m. It was incorporated as the village of '' São João Batista do Ribeirão Claro'' in 1827, and this incorporation is celebrated every year on June 24 as a municipal holiday. The name was changed later to ''Rio Claro''. Starting in the 19th century, Rio Claro attracted large numbers of immigrants from European countries, especially from Germany, Switzerland and Italy, but also from Spain, Portugal, some Eastern European countries, and a substantial community of Christian Arabs from the then Ottoman Empire (mostly Syrian and Lebanese). Japanese immigrants arrived later. There is also a large population of Afro-Brazilians. Rio Claro used to play a very important role in the railway system of São Paulo state. 2009–10 NBB Season
2009–2010 NBB season was the second season of Novo Basquete Brasil, the Brazilian basketball league. It started on November 1, 2009, and was disputed by fourteen teams playing each other in round and runoff in the regular season. At the end of the regular season the first four teams qualify for the quarterfinals of the playoffs automatically now the team who finish between 5th and 12th positions will participate in the first round of the playoffs to define the other four teams in the quarterfinals. Point Guard
The point guard (PG), also called the one or the point, is one of the five positions in a regulation basketball game. A point guard has perhaps the most specialized role of any position. Point guards are expected to run the team's offense by controlling the ball and making sure that it gets to the right player at the right time. Above all, the point guard must understand and accept their coach's game plan; in this way, the position can be compared to a quarterback in American football. They must also be able to adapt to what the defense is allowing and must control the pace of the game. A point guard specializes in certain skills, like other player positions in basketball. Basketball at the 2007 Pan American Games took place at the indoor arena in the Autódromo de Jacarépagua in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, an arena which was built specially for the Pan Am Games. Brazil was the reigning Pan American champion in the men's competition, while Cuba defended its title in the women's competition. Each competition had eight teams divided in two groups. In each group, each team played against all others once and the two best advanced to the semifinals. The two latter in each group played in 5th to 8th classification matches. The women's competition started on July 20 with the final held on July 24. The men's competition began on July 25, with the finals on July 29.
