Village Design Statement

	Village Design Statement Village design statement (VDS) is a term of English rural planning practice. A VDS is a document that describes the distinctive characteristics of the locality, and provides design guidance to influence future development and improve the physical qualities of the area. Drawing up the VDS provides an opportunity for communities to describe how they feel the physical character of their parish can be enhanced. Rural community councils support local communities in the production of village design statements. 	Rural Community Council The rural community councils (RCCs) were established in rural England during the twentieth century to promote rural community life. Each shire county now has one, although some are relative newcomers. The RCCs also form a national coalition called Action with Communities in Rural England ("ACRE"). Each RCC is an independent, locally managed organisation but is dependent on external funding for its continued work. Historically, RCCs were primarily funded by the Rural Development Commission, but this role was subsequently taken over by the Countryside Agency. Most RCCs are also funded through project work linked to their aims and objectives, and from work undertaken for their closely related county-wide organisations representing parish councils and playing field committees. 	Village Development Committee (India) Village Development Committees (VDCs) are voluntary associations of village people for local administration. They are extra constitutional authorities. VDCs consist of two members each from each caste in the village. The unity of villages can be accredited to this VDCs. The decision of VDCs are ultimate in the concerned villages and persons who disobey the judgement of VDC are boycotted from the villages. The villagers solve local problems through the help of VDCs and they never need the help of Police and Courts. It is a great form of association by the villagers and it aims to achieve a strong socially fabricated society. An example of a VDC is Ankapur Village Development Committee.
