Charles Vernam
Charles Terence Priestley Vernam (born 8 October 1996) is an English professional Association football, footballer who plays as a Midfielder#Winger, winger for side Grimsby Town F.C., Grimsby Town. A product of the Scunthorpe United F.C., Scunthorpe United and Derby County F.C., Derby County youth academies, he turned professional with the latter and spent time on loan with ĂŤĂľrĂłttabandalag Vestmannaeyja, ĂŤBV, Coventry City F.C., Coventry City and Grimsby Town F.C., Grimsby Town. He returned to Grimsby on a permanent basis in 2018 and also saw a brief spell on loan to Chorley F.C., Chorley whilst with the Mariners. Gilbert Vernam
Gilbert Sandford Vernam (April 3, 1890 – February 7, 1960) was a Worcester Polytechnic Institute 1914 graduate and AT&T Bell Labs engineer who, in 1917, invented an additive polyalphabetic stream cipher and later co-invented an automated one-time pad cipher. Vernam proposed a teleprinter cipher in which a previously prepared key, kept on paper tape, is combined character by character with the plaintext message to produce the ciphertext. To decipher the ciphertext, the same key would be again combined character by character, producing the plaintext. Vernam later worked for the Postal Telegraph Company, and became an employee of Western Union when that company acquired Postal in 1943. His later work was largely with automatic switching systems for telegraph networks. Remington Vernam (land Developer)
Remington Vernam (January 1843 – July 3, 1907) was an American lawyer and real-estate developer from New York, best known for founding and developing the community of Arverne, which became part of New York City in 1898, from land he had purchased in 1882. The name of Arverne was derived by his wife, Florence, who noted that her husband signed his checks as "R. Vernam". Vernam was born in Mechanicville, New York. Legacy *Public School 42, located at Beach 66th Street and Thursby Avenue, is officially named the "R. Vernam Field
Vernam Field (locally spelled Vernamfield) is a former World War II United States Army Air Forces airfield located in Clarendon Parish, west-southwest of Kingston, Jamaica. The airfield was renamed Vernam Air Force Base by the newly formed United States Air Force in 1948, but was closed in 1949. History The base was named in honour of First Lieutenant Remington de Bremont Vernam (March 24, 1896 – December 1, 1918), an American pilot who entered the French air service during World War I. Vernam was shot down behind German lines on October 30, 1918. After the Armistice he was found by American forces in a hospital in Longwey, France, with another wounded aviator, Lt. Arthur C. Dineen. Vernam died of his wounds on December 1. He is buried in the American cemetery at St. Mihiel in Thiaucourt, France, and was posthumously awarded the Distinguished Service Cross (United States).
