Utah State Aggies Football
The Utah State Aggies are a college football team that competes in the Mountain West Conference (MWC) of the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) of NCAA Division I, representing Utah State University. The Utah State college football program began in 1892 and has played home games at Merlin Olsen Field at Maverik Stadium since 1968. They have won thirteen conference championships in four different conferences during their history, most recently in 2021. On December 12, 2020, Blake Anderson was hired as the Aggies' head coach, replacing Gary Andersen, who was fired 3 games into the 2020 season. 1892 Utah Agricultural Aggies Football Team
The 1892 Utah Agricultural Aggies football team was an American football team that represented Utah Agricultural College (later renamed Utah State University) during the 1892 college football season. In their first season of intercollegiate football, the Aggies compiled a 1–0 record. On November 25, 1892, the Aggies played the 1892 Utah Utes football team, University of Utah football team at Logan, Utah with the Aggies prevailing by a 12–0 score. The game was the first intercollegiate football game in program history for both schools. The game began at 3 p.m. on a muddy field that had been partially cleared of snow. After a scoreless first half, Garf ran for the first touchdown in Aggies history, and F. Olsen kicked the goal from touchdown. BYU–Utah State Football Rivalry
The BYU–Utah State football rivalry is an American college football rivalry between the Brigham Young Cougars and Utah State Aggies. They have met for the Old Wagon Wheel 65 times, dating back to 1948. However, the rivalry predates the Old Wagon Wheel trophy era. The rivalry series between the two schools was largely dominated in the early years by Utah State until 1974. For the next three decades, BYU generally dominated the series with BYU winning ten straight times before the Aggies defeated the Cougars 31–16 on October 1, 2010. With the victory, Utah State reclaimed the Old Wagon Wheel for the first time since 1993. The Old Wagon Wheel also returned to Utah State on October 3, 2014, when they beat BYU 35–20. 2018 North Texas Mean Green Football Team
The 2018 North Texas Mean Green football team represented the University of North Texas in the 2018 NCAA Division I FBS football season. The Mean Green played their home games at the Apogee Stadium in Denton, Texas, and competed in the West Division of Conference USA (C–USA). They were led by third-year head coach Seth Littrell. They finished the season 9–4, 5–3 in C-USA play to finish in a three-way tie for second place in the West Division. They were invited to the New Mexico Bowl where they lost to Utah State. New Mexico Bowl
The New Mexico Bowl is an NCAA-sanctioned post-season college football bowl game that has been played annually since 2006 at University Stadium, on the campus of the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Owned and operated by ESPN Events, it has typically been scheduled as one of the first games of the bowl season. The bowl has tie-ins with Conference USA and the Mountain West Conference. Gary Andersen
Gary Lee Andersen (born February 19, 1964) is an American football coach who was most recently head football coach at Utah State University. Andersen has also been the head football coach of Southern Utah (2003), Wisconsin (2013–2014), and Oregon State (2015–2017). He served three years as the defensive coordinator at Utah, where he coached the 2008 Utes team that went undefeated and beat Alabama in the Sugar Bowl to finish the season ranked second in the nation. He is currently an analyst at Weber State. Playing career Andersen began his football career playing at Cottonwood High School, where he lettered in football for two years. Merlin Olsen
Merlin Jay Olsen (; September 15, 1940 – March 11, 2010) was an American football player, announcer, and actor. For his entire 15-year professional football career he was a defensive tackle with the Los Angeles Rams in the National Football League (NFL). He was selected to play in the Pro Bowl 14 times — every year but his last. The only other football players to have matched that number are the former offensive lineman Bruce Matthews, the former tight end Tony Gonzalez, and the former quarterback Peyton Manning.
