Urban School Of San Francisco
Urban School of San Francisco is an independent coeducational high school located in the Haight-Ashbury district in San Francisco, California. History Urban was founded in 1966 by a group of Marin Country Day School parents. Urban has grown from 22 students into a student body of over 400. Leadership After 32 years, Mark Salkind, a 1970 Urban graduate, retired as Head of School in June 2019. Dan B. Miller was appointed Head of School in July 2019. Student life Urban has over 40 student clubs, as well as student government, an active outdoor and class trips program, and a student newspaper, yearbook, and online literary and arts journal. Performing arts opportunities include fall and winter theater productions, circus class performances, and the annual One Acts Festival, as well as comprehensive jazz band, choral, and ensemble programs. Haight-Ashbury, San Francisco
Haight-Ashbury () is a district of San Francisco, California, named for the intersection of Haight and Ashbury streets. It is also called The Haight and The Upper Haight. The neighborhood is known as one of the main centers of the counterculture of the 1960s. Location The district generally encompasses the neighborhood surrounding Haight Street, bounded by Stanyan Street and Golden Gate Park on the west, Oak Street and the Golden Gate Park Panhandle on the north, Baker Street and Buena Vista Park to the east and Frederick Street and Ashbury Heights and Cole Valley neighborhoods to the south. The street names commemorate two early San Francisco leaders: pioneer and exchange banker Henry Haight, and Munroe Ashbury, a member of the San Francisco Board of Supervisors from 1864 to 1870. Robert Chinn is a New Zealand-born American international chef, television presenter, restaurateur and cookbook author. He is a culinary celebrity across Asia and the Middle East, thanks to his role as host of Discovery TLC's ''World Cafe'', and as a judge on MBC's ''Top Chef Middle East''. Gypsy Snider (born 1970) is a Canadian–American director, choreographer, and former acrobat. She co-founded The 7 Fingers, an artist collective, and choreographed Pippin in 2013. Early life and education Snider's mother Peggy and stepfather Larry Pisoni co-founded the Pickle Family Circus, which her brother Lorenzo Pisoni also performed in as a clown and actor. She made her Pickle Family Circus debut at the age of four as a circus performer. Onome Johnson Ojo (born June 3, 1977) is a Nigerian former American football wide receiver in the National Football League (NFL). He also played in NFL Europe. Rebecca Walker (born November 17, 1969, as Rebecca Leventhal) is an American writer, feminist, and activist. Walker has been regarded as one of the prominent voices of Third Wave Feminism, and the coiner of the term "third wave", since publishing a 1992 article on feminism in ''Ms.'' magazine called "Becoming the Third Wave", in which she proclaimed: "I am the Third Wave."
