The School of Human Ecology is a school at the University of Wisconsin in Madison, Wisconsin. The school has both graduate and undergraduate programs. The school has departments in Consumer Science, Interdisciplinary Studies, Design Studies, and Human Development & Family Studies. The school has approximately 900 undergraduates working towards majors, and 100 graduate students. Undergraduate program The school offers undergraduate majors in Retailing and Consumer Behavior; Community and Nonprofit Leadership; Human Development and Family Studies; Interior Architecture; Personal Finance; Textile and Fashion Design. Each major is based on a background of course work in the arts and humanities, the social sciences, and the biological, physical, and natural sciences. Madison is the county seat of Dane County and the capital city of the U.S. state of Wisconsin. Human Ecology
Human ecology is an interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary study of the relationship between humans and their natural, social, and built environments. The philosophy and study of human ecology has a diffuse history with advancements in ecology, geography, sociology, psychology, anthropology, zoology, epidemiology, public health, and home economics, among others. Historical development The roots of ecology as a broader discipline can be traced to the Greeks and a lengthy list of developments in natural history science. Ecology also has notably developed in other cultures.
