The University of Pittsburgh's School of Computing and Information is one of the 17 schools and colleges of University of Pittsburgh located on the university's main campus in the Oakland section of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, United States. The school was formed in 2017 with a focus on academic programs that teach contextually situated computing in an interdisciplinary manner. The school offers bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degrees as well as certificate programs and houses three departments: Computer Science, Informatics and Networked Systems, and Information Culture and Data Stewardship. The school was created by combining the university's School of Information Sciences, which was also known as the "iSchool" and was founded in 1901, with the Department of Computer Science, which was founded in 1966 and previously housed the university's Dietrich School of Arts and Sciences. Sennott Square
Sennott Square is a major academic building on the campus of the University of Pittsburgh in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, United States. The building designed by the architectural firm JSA was dedicated on September 5, 2002, and was the largest Pitt academic building constructed since 1978. The six-story, 248,000 gross-square-foot facility cost approximately $35 million and occupies a city block and is bounded by Sennott and Bouquet streets and Forbes and Oakland avenues. Brutalist architecture is an architectural style that emerged during the 1950s in the United Kingdom, among the reconstruction projects of the post-war era. Tasso Katselas
Tasso Katselas (born 1927) is an architect in the United States known for his modernist concrete buildings especially in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. His work includes Pittsburgh International Airport, public housing, and mansions. His firm was known as Tasso Katselas Associates and became TKA when he semi-retired in 2005 while continuing to consult for the firm. Katselas' parents immigrated to the United States from Greece. His work includes public housing and civic structures. He grew up in East Pittsburgh and studied architecture at the Carnegie Institute of Technology (now Carnegie Mellon). He taught at Kansas State College and designed a chapel for the Fallingwater property after Frank Lloyd Wright recommended him to Liliane Kaufmann for the design of a chapel but she died and the project was never built.
