The deputy secretary of energy is a high-ranking position within the United States Department of Energy. The deputy secretary is the second-highest-ranking official of the department and assists the United States Secretary of Energy, secretary of energy in the supervision and direction of the department. The deputy secretary succeeds the secretary in their absence, sickness, or unavailability. The deputy secretary is appointed by the president with the consent of the United States Senate to serve at the request of the president. James Danly
James Patrick Danly is an American attorney who was a member of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission. He was nominated by President Donald Trump in 2019 and took office on March 30, 2020. In January 2025, President-elect Donald Trump announced his intention to appoint Danly as United States Deputy Secretary of Energy, Deputy Secretary of the United States Department of Energy. He formerly served as FERC's general counsel. On November 5, 2020, he was named chairman of FERC. After serving for only 77 days, Danly was demoted on January 21, 2021, when President Biden named Richard Glick Chairman. He served as President and Chief Executive Officer of Centrus Energy, a publicly traded energy company, (LEU) from 2015 to 2023. Prior to joining Centrus Energy, he served as United States Deputy Secretary of Energy from 2009 to 2014. Francis Stanton Blake (born July 30, 1949) is an American businessman and lawyer, who was the chairman and CEO of The Home Depot from January 2007 to May 2014. Prior to this he worked for the U.S. Department of Energy and General Electric. He was a longtime protégé of Robert Nardelli. Education and family Blake attended Brooks School in North Andover, Massachusetts, class of 1967.
