USA Davis Cup Team
The United States men's national tennis team represents the United States in Davis Cup tennis competition, and is governed by the United States Tennis Association. The U.S. competed in the first Davis Cup in 1900, when a group of Harvard University students challenged the British. They are the most successful Davis Cup team ever to compete in the Davis Cup, winning the coveted Davis Cup title on 32 separate occasions closely followed by Australia on 28. Mardy Simpson Fish (born December 9, 1981) is an American former professional tennis player. He was a hardcourt specialist. He is one of several American tennis players who rose to prominence in the early 2000s.Fish won six tournaments on the main ATP Tour and reached the final of four ATP World Tour Masters 1000, Masters Series events: Cincinnati Masters, Cincinnati in 2003 and 2010, Indian Wells Masters, Indian Wells in 2008, and Rogers Cup (tennis), Montreal in 2011. The 1946 Davis Cup was the 35th edition of the most important tournament between national teams in men's tennis. The trophy and tournament were renamed for the founder, Dwight F. Davis, upon his death in 1945. This was the first edition since the end of World War II. 15 teams entered the Europe Zone, and 5 teams entered the America Zone. The United States defeated Mexico in the America Zone final, and Sweden defeated Yugoslavia in the Europe Zone final. The USA defeated Sweden in the Inter-Zonal play-off, and then defeated defending champions Australia in the Challenge Round. 1979 Davis Cup
The 1979 Davis Cup was the 68th edition of the Davis Cup, the most important tournament between national teams in men's tennis. 52 teams would enter the competition, 29 in the Europe Zone, 13 in the Americas Zone, and 10 in the Eastern Zone. Following years of protests from various national sides, South Africa were expelled from the Davis Cup for failing to abandon its apartheid policies. For many years the Davis Cup organisers had been reluctant to let political issues affect the competition, however following several years of defaults by national teams and threats of a boycott, the organisers of the tournament were forced to resolve the political disagreements by expelling the South African side.
