Universe (Slade Song)
"Universe" is a song by English rock band Slade, released on 2 December 1991 as the second single from their compilation album ''Wall of Hits'' (1991). It was written and produced by bassist Jim Lea. "Universe" reached number 76 in the UK Singles Chart and was the band's last single before disbanding in 1992. Background "Universe" was the second of two new singles to be released from the band's 1991 compilation album ''Wall of Hits''. Earlier that year, Polydor approached the band with their plans to release a new compilation album and offered them the opportunity to record two new singles to promote it. The contract signed by the band was for two new singles, with the option for a new studio album if both performed well commercially. The band subsequently used Birmingham's Rich Bitch Studios in mid-1991 to record some new songs. Don Powell
Donald George Powell (born 10 September 1946) is an English musician who was the drummer for glam rock and later hard rock group Slade for over fifty years, from 1966 until he was dismissed by Dave Hill in 2020. Early life Powell was born in Bilston in 1946. His parents were Walter and Dora Powell. Wally was a steelworker, and Dora made electrical components. He has three siblings, a brother and two sisters. He attended Villiers Road Primary School from 1950 to 1957 and started to play drums for the Boy Scouts in 1958. He then attended Etheridge Secondary Modern School for Boys from 1957 to 1962, and studied metallurgy at Wednesbury Technical College in 1962. Chas Chandler
Bryan James "Chas" Chandler (18 December 1938 – 17 July 1996) was an English musician, record producer and manager, best known as the original bassist in The Animals, for which he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1994. He also managed the band Slade, and Jimi Hendrix, about whom he was regularly interviewed until his death in 1996. Early life Chandler was born in Heaton, Newcastle. After leaving school, he worked as a turner in the Tyneside shipyards. He became the bass player with The Alan Price Trio in 1962. David John Hill (born 4 April 1946) is an English rock musician. He is the lead guitarist, a backing vocalist and the sole continuous member in the English band Slade. Hill is known for his flamboyant stage clothes and hairstyle. Early life Born in Flete House, Holbeton, Devon, the son of a mechanic, he moved with his parents to Penn, West Midlands, Penn, Wolverhampton, when he was a year old. "Gypsy Roadhog" is a song by the British rock band Slade, released in 1977 as the only single from the band's seventh studio album ''Whatever Happened to Slade''. It was written by lead vocalist Noddy Holder and bassist Jim Lea, and produced by Chas Chandler. It reached No. 48 in the UK. Background Having returned from the US in late 1976, Slade found the UK music business much changed from when they had left in 1975 to try and crack the American market.
