Triton Museum Of Art
The Triton Museum of Art is a contemporary art museum located at 1505 Warburton Avenue in Santa Clara, California. History The museum was founded in 1965 in San Jose, California, by rancher, lawyer and art patron W. Robert Morgan and his wife June. It is the oldest non-university museum in Santa Clara County. Less than two years after its opening, the Triton Museum moved to its current location in Santa Clara, California. Exhibitions and programs were held in four pavilions surrounded by a seven-acre park. Due to the tremendous economic and population growth of the Santa Clara Valley during the 1970s, a new facility was built to serve the changing needs of the community. Construction for the current facility was completed in October, 1987. The 22,000 square-foot space features high ceilings, pyramidal skylights and dramatic lighting. Theodore Wores
Theodore Wores (August 1, 1859 – September 11, 1939) was an American painter born in San Francisco, son of Joseph Wores and Gertrude Liebke. His father worked as a hat manufacturer in San Francisco. Life Wores began his art training at age twelve in the studio of Joseph Harrington, who taught him color, composition, drawing and perspective. When the San Francisco School of Design opened in 1874, Wores was one of the first pupils to enroll. After one year at that school under the landscape painter Virgil Macey Williams, he continued his art education at the Royal Academy in Munich where he spent six years. He also painted with William Merritt Chase and Frank Duveneck. Wores returned to San Francisco in 1881. ''Morgan Horse'', is a public artwork by artist Alexandrovich “Sascha” Stanislav Schnittmann, located in front of the Triton Museum of Art, in Santa Clara, California. History The sculpture was commissioned by Robert Morgan, a prominent breeder of Morgan horses. Robert Morgan had established the Triton Museum, named after his favorite horse, Triton. De Saisset Museum
The de Saisset Museum at Santa Clara University opened in 1955, after Isabel de Saisset, the last member of a California pioneer family bequeathed her estate to the University of Santa Clara. The museum owns nearly 10,000 art pieces and historical artifacts, including the work of early Californian artist and university alumnus Ernest de Saisset and a considerable collection of California mission artifacts. The de Saisset recently completed a major renovation of its storage facilities and is open to the public free of charge.
