Tiger Rose (1923 Film)
''Tiger Rose'' is a 1923 American silent romantic adventure film produced and distributed by the Warner Brothers. It is based on Willard Mack's 1917 Broadway play starring Lenore Ulric. Ulric reprises her role in this silent film version. The story was later filmed as again in 1929 as '' Tiger Rose'' by George Fitzmaurice. The SilentEra database lists this film as surviving. Plot As described in a film magazine review, Trooper Michael Devlin of the Royal Northwest Mounted Police saves the life of Rose Bocion. She is an orphan, the ward of factor Hector McCollins. She falls in love with Bruce Norton. Norton slays a man who betrayed his sister and was the cause of his father's death. Aided by Dr. Cusick, who later turns out to be the husband of Norton's sister, Rose helps Norton to escape. Trooper Devlin finally arrests Norton, but he is later freed and later marries Rose. Sidney Arnold Franklin (March 21, 1893 – May 18, 1972) was an American film director and producer. Franklin, like William C. deMille, specialized in adapting literary works or Broadway stage plays. A factor is a type of trader who receives and sells goods on commission, called factorage. A factor is a mercantile fiduciary transacting business in his own name and not disclosing his principal. A factor differs from a commission merchant in that a factor takes possession of goods (or documents of title representing goods, such as a bill of lading) on consignment, but a commission merchant sells goods not in his possession on the basis of samples. Most modern factor business is in the textile field, but factors are also used to a great extent in the shoe, furniture, hardware, and other industries, and the trade areas in which factors operate have increased. Frances Starr
Frances Grant Starr (June 6, 1881 – June 11, 1973) was an American stage, film and television actress. Early years Starr's parents were Charles Edward Starr and Emma (''née'' Grant). She had two half sisters, and her father died when she was a child. Career Starr started in plays in 1901 in an Albany stock company, in which Lionel Barrymore and Alison Skipworth were members. She signed with David Belasco in 1906 and appeared in a small role with David Warfield in ''The Music Master''. In November 1906 she appeared along with another young actress, Jane Cowl, in ''The Rose of the Rancho''. She achieved her breakout stage role in 1909 in Belasco's production of ''The Easiest Way''. Starr continued to have a string of successes such as ''The Case of Becky'' (1912) and ''Shore Leave'' (1922). Claude Benton Gillingwater (August 2, 1870 – November 1, 1939) was an American stage and screen actor. He first appeared on the stage then in more than 90 films between 1918 and 1939, including the Academy Award-nominated ''A Tale of Two Cities'' (1935) and '' Conquest'' (1937). He appeared in several films starring Shirley Temple, beginning with '' Poor Little Rich Girl'' (1936). Early life Gillingwater was born in Louisiana, Missouri. Though he studied law, he preferred not to follow in his father's footsteps and become a lawyer. He became a travelling salesman for a wholesale firm, selling vinegar. Theodore Von Eltz
Theodore von Eltz (November 5, 1893 – October 6, 1964) was an American film actor, appearing in more than 200 films between 1915 and 1957. He was the father of actress Lori March. Von Eltz was a Yale University professor's son. After 12 years at an eastern private boarding school, he served in France for eight months during World War I. He followed his war experience with ventures into oil fields in Texas and on the stage in New York. In September 1921, von Eltz married Peggy Prior. They had a daughter, Lori, and a son, Theodore, Jr. In 1928, the couple separated, reconciled, and finally divorced on November 7. Sam De Grasse
Samuel Alfred De Grasse (June 12, 1875 – November 29, 1953) was a Canadian actor. He was the uncle of cinematographer Robert De Grasse. Biography Samuel Alfred De Grasse was born in Bathurst, New Brunswick to Lange De Grasse (1828–1891) and Helene ( Comeau; 1836-?), both of French-Canadian descent. He trained to be a dentist, and married Annie McDonnell in 1904. Their daughter, Clementine Bell, was born in 1906. Annie died in 1909 while giving birth to another daughter, Olive, who also died. In 1910, Samuel was practicing dentistry and he and his daughter Clementine were living in Providence, Rhode Island along with his older sister, Mrs. Clementine Fauchy, and her 14-year-old son, Jerome Fauchy.
