The Vault Of Horror (film)
''The Vault of Horror'' (otherwise known as ''Vault of Horror'', ''Further Tales from the Crypt'' and ''Tales from the Crypt II'') is a 1973 British anthology horror film directed by Roy Ward Baker, and starring Terry-Thomas, Dawn Addams, Denholm Elliott, Curd Jürgens, Tom Baker, Michael Craig, Terence Alexander, Glynis Johns, Mike Pratt, Robin Nedwell, Geoffrey Davies, Daniel Massey and Anna Massey. None of the film's stories are actually from ''Vault of Horror'' comics. All but one appeared in ''Tales from the Crypt'', the exception being from ''Shock SuspenStories''. The film omits the Vault Keeper character from the comics. Plot Intro Five strangers board a descending lift, one by one, in a modern office block in London. Roy Ward Baker (born Roy Horace Baker; 19 December 1916 – 5 October 2010) was an English film director. ''Tales from the Crypt'' was an American bi-monthly horror comic anthology series published by EC Comics from 1950 to 1955, producing 27 issues (the first issue with the title was #20, previously having been ''International Comics'' (#1–#5); ''International Crime Patrol'' (#6); ''Crime Patrol'' (#7–#16) and ''The Crypt of Terror'' (#17–#19) for a total of 46 issues in the series). ''The Vault of Horror'' was an American bi-monthly horror comic anthology series published by EC Comics in the early 1950s. Along with ''Tales from the Crypt (comics), Tales from the Crypt'' and ''The Haunt of Fear'', it formed a trifecta of popular EC horror anthologies. ''The Vault of Horror'' hit newsstands with its April/May 1950 issue and ceased publication with its December/January 1955 issue, producing a total of 40 issues. Origin In 1950, William Gaines and his editor Al Feldstein discovered they shared similar tastes in horror and began experimenting with such stories in EC's crime comics, crime comic ''War Against Crime'' and its companion title, ''Crime Patrol''. Michael John Pratt (7 June 1931 – 10 July 1976) was an English actor, musician, songwriter and screenwriter, known for his work on British television in the 1960s and 1970s. Early life and musical career Early in his career, Mike Pratt worked in advertising, while also taking some part-time acting roles. He left his office job in the mid-1950s. With three friends (including Lionel Bart), he then drove around Europe in an old-style London taxi. Upon returning to England, he earned a living as a jazz and skiffle musician in London clubs. Terence Joseph Alexander (11 March 1923 – 28 May 2009) was an English film and television actor, best known for his role as Charlie Hungerford in the British TV drama '' Bergerac'', which ran for nine series on BBC One between 1981 and 1991.
