''The Tick'' is an American sitcom based on the character Tick from the comic book of the same title and starring Patrick Warburton as the title character. It aired on Fox in late 2001 and was produced by Columbia TriStar Television. With a pilot airing on November 8, the series ran nine episodes on broadcast television. It was released to DVD in 2003. History The 2001 sitcom was the first attempt at a live action incarnation of ''The Tick'', a comic book created by Ben Edlund, which had previously been adapted for television as a successful animated series, ''The Tick'', which ran 3 seasons from 1994 to 1996. Ben Edlund
Ben Edlund (born September 20, 1968) is an American cartoonist, screenwriter, television producer, and television director. He is best known as the creator of the satirical superhero character The Tick. Background Edlund was born and raised in Pembroke, Massachusetts. He attended Silver Lake Regional High School and was voted by classmates as "Most Artistic" for both the 8th grade and 12th grade yearbook superlatives. At the age of 17, without a driver's license, Edlund was forced to ride with friends and frequent their favorite hangouts. One particular destination, the New England Comics store, spawned Edlund's interest in the comic book medium, which later launched his art and writing career. The Tick (1994 TV Series)
''The Tick'' is an American animated television series adaptation of the New England Comics satirical superhero the Tick. The series aired for three seasons from 1994 to 1996 on the Fox network's Fox Kids block, which introduced the character to a mainstream audience. ''The Tick'' has been syndicated by various networks, further increasing the show's cult following, and has been released on both VHS and DVD. A live-action series aired in 2001, with Amazon launching a second live-action series in 2016. ''The Tick'' was also shown on Teletoon in Canada as part of its ''Toonaholics Anonymous'' block in 2001 and on Jetix in the United States. An innuendo is a hint, insinuation or intimation about a person or thing, especially of a denigrating or derogatory nature. The Tick is a superhero created by cartoonist Ben Edlund in 1986 as a newsletter mascot for the New England Comics chain of Boston-area comic book stores. The character is a parody of American comic book superheroes. After its creation, the character spun off into an independent comic book series in 1988, and gained mainstream popularity through an animated TV series on Fox in 1994. Parody
A parody, also known as a spoof, a satire, a send-up, a take-off, a lampoon, a play on (something), or a caricature, is a creative work designed to imitate, comment on, and/or mock its subject by means of satiric or ironic imitation.
