It is a well-known work from the Centraal Museum in Utrecht, Netherlands. The figure in the painting has been identified as the F. J. Robinson, 1st Viscount Goderich, Viscount Goderich, who briefly served as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, British Prime Minister between August 1827 and January 1828. Pieter Christoffel Wonder (10 January 1780 – 12 July 1852) was a Dutch painter, active in England. Biography Wonder was born in Utrecht. He was largely self-taught, by making copies of the Old Masters, although between 1802 and 1804 he did attend classes at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf.Brief notes @ the Dordrechts Museum. The Centraal Museum is the main museum in Utrecht, Netherlands, founded in 1838. The museum has a wide-ranging collection, mainly of works produced locally. The collection of the paintings by the Northern Mannerist Joachim Wtewael is by a long way the largest anywhere in the world. Other highlights are many significant paintings by the Utrecht Caravaggisti, such as Gerard van Honthorst and Hendrick ter Brugghen. Dutch art describes the history of visual arts in the Netherlands, after the United Provinces separated from Flanders. Earlier painting in the area is covered in Early Netherlandish painting and Dutch and Flemish Renaissance painting. The history of Dutch art is dominated by the Dutch Golden Age painting, mostly of about 1620 to 1680, when a very distinct style and new types of painting were developed, though still keeping close links with Flemish Baroque painting. There was a healthy artistic climate in Dutch cities during the seventeenth century. For example, between 1605 and 1635 over 100,000 paintings were produced in Haarlem. At that time art ownership in the city was 25%, a record high. After the end of the Golden Age, production of paintings remained high, but ceased to influence the rest of Europe as strongly.
