The Short North
The Short North is a neighborhood in Columbus, Ohio, United States, centered on the main strip of High Street (Columbus, Ohio), High Street immediately north of the Arena District and extending until just south of the University District (Columbus, Ohio), University District and Ohio State University. It is an easy walk from the convention center or Nationwide Arena district to the south, spanning the length of High Street from the north side of Goodale Street to the south side of 7th/King Avenue. It is flanked by Victorian Village to the west and Italian Village to the East. The Short North is a densely populated commercial and residential district, with especially high pedestrian use during its monthly "Gallery Hop" and other local and downtown events. Doo Dah Parade
The Pasadena Doo Dah Parade is a popular farcical and flamboyant parade held in Pasadena, California, about once a year. The event has been copied by the Columbus, Ohio, Ocean City, New Jersey, and Kalamazoo, Michigan Doo Dah Parades. Norfolk, Virginia has a Doo Dah Parade but its connection to the Pasadena parade is uncertain. 2023 Short North Shooting
On June 23, 2023, ten people were shot and injured in a mass shooting in the Short North district of Columbus, Ohio. The shooting was the third in a series of attacks that had occurred across the city in a single weekend, all of which ended with several victims. The shooting resulted in the implementation of "Operation Moonlight", an effort by the city of Columbus to combat mass shootings in downtown public areas. Shooting At 2:30 AM EDT, a 20-year old man and another unidentified person rode on a motorcycle up North High Street, in the Short North Business District. The driver stopped at an intersection in the center of the district and began to fire upon pedestrians and other bystanders with a pistol, and 8 people were injured as a result of the gunfire. Stonewall Columbus
Stonewall Columbus is a nonprofit organization serving the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) population of Columbus, Ohio. The organization is located in the Short North district of Columbus. Stonewall Columbus is the organizer of the annual Columbus Pride. Goodale Park
Goodale Park is a public park in the Victorian Village area of Columbus, Ohio. It was donated to the city in 1851 by Lincoln Goodale. For a few months during the Civil War, it was a staging area for Union troops known as Camp Jackson. ComFest, a large, free, multi-day, non-corporate, music and arts annual festival, is held in the park in June.
