"The Man from Nowhere" is the fifteenth episode of the 1969 ITC British television series ''Randall and Hopkirk (Deceased)'' starring Mike Pratt, Kenneth Cope and Annette Andre. Overview In this episode Jeannie once again falls for the deception of another man, this time pretending to be Marty. Although she is extremely impressed with his knowledge that Marty once had as they visit Woburn Abbey, it is far more likely she is attracted to the man himself rather than truly believing he is Marty in spirit. Patrick David Newell (27 March 1932 – 22 July 1988) was a British actor, known for his large size. Early life and education The second son of Eric Llewellyn Newell, of High Lodge, Hadleigh, Suffolk, an Oxford-educated physician who served as a Captain in the Royal Army Medical Corps, Newell was educated at Taunton School and completed his National Service, where a fellow recruit was Michael Caine, before training at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, alongside Albert Finney and Peter O'Toole. Career Newell began to be seen frequently on TV, usually cast as a fat villain or in comic roles. Given his rotund appearance and ability for playing slightly stuffy types, he was a natural stooge in several comedy shows, first for Arthur Askey, in ''Arthur's Treasured Volumes'' (ATV, 1960), then for Jimmy Edwards in ''Faces of Jim'' (BBC, 1962), with Ronnie Barker also supporting. ''Randall and Hopkirk (Deceased)'' is a British private detective television series, starring Mike Pratt and Kenneth Cope respectively as the private detectives Jeff Randall and Marty Hopkirk. The series was created by Dennis Spooner and produced by Monty Berman, and was first broadcast in 1969 and 1970. In the United States, it was given the title ''My Partner the Ghost''. ITC Entertainment produced a single series of 26 episodes in 1968 and 1969, which was aired from September 1969 to March 1970. The pilot episode was first broadcast in the United Kingdom on 19 September 1969 by ATV in the Midlands. London Weekend Television broadcast the pilot two days later on 21 September 1969. Woburn Abbey (), occupying the east of the village of Woburn, Bedfordshire, England, is a country house, the family seat of the Duke of Bedford. Annette Andre (born 24 June 1939) is an Australian actress best known for her work on British television throughout the 1960s and 1970s. Early life and early career The daughter of an upholsterer, Annette Andre was born in Drummoyne, Australia, as Annette Christine Andreallo. She was brought up in Sydney and educated at Brigidine College, Sydney. She began work as a ballet dancer at the age of 4 at an academy linked to the Australian Ballet. At 15, she decided to stop ballet and pursue acting because she realised that she was not yet 16, the legal age to work in acting. Kenneth Charles Cope (born 14 April 1931) is an English retired actor and scriptwriter. He is best known for his roles as Marty Hopkirk in ''Randall and Hopkirk (Deceased)'', Jed Stone in ''Coronation Street'' and Ray Hilton in '' Brookside''. Early life Kenneth Cope was born on 14 April 1931 in Liverpool, Lancashire, England. Career Cope began playing character roles in films from the mid 1950's, and between 1961 and 1966, gained greater attention for his regular role in ''Coronation Street'' as the shady Jed Stone, a part he later returned to in 2008. The appearance led to the recording of a novelty pop single, "Hands Off, Stop Mucking About", with Tony Hatch. Michael John Pratt (7 June 1931 – 10 July 1976) was an English actor, musician, songwriter and screenwriter, known for his work on British television in the 1960s and 1970s. Early life and musical career Early in his career, Mike Pratt worked in advertising, while also taking some part-time acting roles. He left his office job in the mid-1950s. With three friends (including Lionel Bart), he then drove around Europe in an old-style London taxi. Upon returning to England, he earned a living as a jazz and skiffle musician in London clubs. An accomplished guitarist and pianist, in the 1950s, he jammed with the Vipers Skiffle Group at the 2 I's club in London with his friend Tommy Steele. Pratt can be seen jamming skiffle on a 1950s Pathé News clip with other musicians of the era including members of the Shadows. "When the Spirit Moves You" is the sixteenth episode of the 1969 ITC British television series ''Randall and Hopkirk (Deceased)'' starring Mike Pratt and Kenneth Cope. The episode was first broadcast on 2 January 1970 on ITV and was directed by Ray Austin. Annette Andre does not appear in this episode. Unlike "The House on Haunted Hill", the non-appearance of Andre's character Jeannie Hopkirk is not explained in this episode.
