''The Heroes'', also known as ''The Shaolin Heroes'', is a 1980 Hong Kong martial arts film directed by Wu Ma and Pao Hsueh-li and starring Ti Lung, Shih Szu and Danny Lee. Plot During the Qing Dynasty, the imperial court views the righteous Shaolin Temple as an eyesore and sends a group of soldiers to destroy the temple, led by chief Ko Fei (Ti Lung), a former Shaolin disciple. After Shaolin was destroyed, all of its disciples were captured and detained. Although Ko made them work as hard labors, he was actually helping them increase their physical strength to refine their martial arts. The Heroes were an English rock band formed in 1979, with Chris Bradford and Mark Hankins on guitar and vocals. The line-up was completed by Pete Lennon (lead guitar), Dave Powell (drums) and ex-Randy band-member Brian (Wally) Wallis on bass guitar. Although primarily a recording group, they performed a tour of Germany with Dr. Feelgood, playing the Olympianhalle in Munich and the Top Ten Club in Hamburg. Playing good time rock and roll, the five piece recorded an album of ten Bradford penned songs: ''Border Raiders'' in 1980, plus a single "Some Kind of Women" b/w "10 % Will Do" all released on the Polydor label. ''The Neon Wilderness'' (1947) is the first short-story collection by American writer Nelson Algren. Two of its stories had received an O. Henry Award. Algren received an award from the American Academy of Arts and Letters the same year. Overview The book collects 24 stories: 8 previously published (from 1933 to 1947) and 16 new. Most of them are set in then-contemporary Chicago (1930s and 1940s), in the so-called "Polish-American ghetto". They revolve around the lower classes: workers and unemployed, drunkards and gamblers, prostitutes and hustlers, small-businessmen and policemen.
