The Gentleman From Nowhere
''The Gentleman from Nowhere'' is a 1948 American crime-drama film directed by William Castle. Plot Warner Baxter plays a security guard, wounded in a robbery of furs, who arouses the suspicions of an insurance investigator. The guard may or may not be a chemist who has been missing for seven years, declared dead, and whose widow collected $200,000 on his insurance policy. William Castle
William Castle (born William Schloss Jr.; April 24, 1914 – May 31, 1977) was an American film director, producer, screenwriter, and actor. Orphaned at 11, Castle dropped out of high school at 15 to work in the theater. He came to the attention of Columbia Pictures for his talent for promotion and was hired. He learned the trade of filmmaking and became a director, acquiring a reputation for the ability to churn out competent B-movies quickly and on budget. He eventually struck out on his own, producing and directing Thriller (genre), thrillers, which, despite their low budgets, he effectively promoted using film promotion, gimmicks, a trademark for which he is best known. Robert Emmett Keane
Robert Emmett Keane (March 4, 1883 – July 2, 1981) was an American actor of both the stage and screen. Biography Keane began on stage in the 1910s, his first Broadway appearance being in the production of '' The Passing Show of 1914''. He continued on the stage through the mid-1930s, appearing in both London and New York theater productions. His film career began in 1930, and over the twenty-five years of that career he appeared in between 170 and 200 films. At the very tail end of his acting life he made several appearances on the small screen. Keane was married twice. His first marriage was to Muriel Inetta Window, an opera singer, vaudeville actress and 1913 Peacock Girl with the Ziegfeld Follies. They were married in approximately 1916 and divorced in 1920. After his divorce, he married the actress Claire Whitney in 1921, and they remained married until her death in 1969. He retired in 1958, and died on July 2, 1981. Selmer Adolf Jackson (May 7, 1888 – March 30, 1971) was an American stage film and television actor. He appeared in nearly 400 films between 1921 and 1963. His name was sometimes spelled Selmar Jackson. Jackson was born in Lake Mills, Iowa and died in Burbank, California from a heart attack. Jackson gained early acting experience in stock theater, working with groups such as the Des Moines Stock Company. Jackson's screen debut was in the silent film ''The Supreme Passion'' (1921). William Stanley Blystone (August 1, 1894 – July 16, 1956) was an American film actor who made more than 500 films appearances between 1924 and 1956. He was sometimes billed as William Blystone or William Stanley. Early years Blystone was born in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. He was a steel production engineer and worked in ore mines before he became an actor. Career Blystone is best known for his appearance in Charlie Chaplin's '' Modern Times'', playing Paulette Goddard's father, and several short films starring The Three Stooges. Grandon Rhodes (born Grandon Neviers Augustine Rolker; August 7, 1904 – June 9, 1987) was an American actor. Early years Rhodes was born in Jersey City, New Jersey.
