''The Brass Bottle'' is a 1923 American silent fantasy comedy film produced and directed by Maurice Tourneur and distributed by First National Pictures. The original 1900 novel '' The Brass Bottle'' by Thomas Anstey Guthrie was produced as a Broadway play in 1910. A 1914 silent followed. Both silent versions are lost. A 1964 adaptation starred Tony Randall and Barbara Eden. Ernest Torrence
Ernest Torrence (born Ernest Torrance-Thomson, 26 June 1878 – 15 May 1933) was a Scottish film character actor who appeared in many Hollywood films, including '' Broken Chains'' (1922) with Colleen Moore, '' Mantrap'' (1926) with Clara Bow and '' Fighting Caravans'' (1931) with Gary Cooper and Lili Damita. Julanne Johnston (May 1, 1900 – December 26, 1988) was an American silent film actress. Biography Johnston was born and educated in Indianapolis, Indiana, then her family moved to Hollywood. There she took dancing lessons at the Denishawn School and acted with the Hollywood Community Theatre for two years. She also attended the Hollywood School for Girls. Johnston began her career as a solo dancer and toured with Ruth St. Denis during summer vacations from school. In 1924, she was selected to be a WAMPAS Baby Star. Douglas Fairbanks saw Johnston dance in a theater before the premiere of his film ''Robin Hood'', and this exposure resulted in his signing her to be the leading lady in '' The Thief of Bagdad'', with Anna May Wong in 1924. Otis Harlan (December 29, 1865 – January 21, 1940) was an American actor and comedian. He voiced Happy, one of the Seven Dwarfs in the Disney animated film ''Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs''. Early years Harlan was born in Zanesville, Ohio in 1865. He married Nellie Harvey and had a daughter named Marion. Harlan was the uncle of the silent film era leading man, Kenneth Harlan. Edward Jobson (February 29, 1860 – February 7, 1925) was an American actor of stage and silent film. He started in silent films in his fifties. He had a sour yet sad bulldog demeanor and can be spotted in several surviving silent films. Charlotte Merriam (April 5, 1903 – July 10, 1972) was an American motion picture actress. Career Bessie Charlotte Merriam was the daughter of army colonel Henry Clay Merriam (1879-1955) and born in Fort Sheridan, Illinois. Her film career began in 1919 at the age of 16 with a role in ''The Flip of a Coin''. While visiting Universal Pictures that year, she was offered a part in a comedy series starring Eddie Lyons and Leo Moran, possibly to replace their female regular, Betty Compson, who graduated to features. Merriam accepted. Afterward, she played leads in one- and two-reel comedies, and appeared in important parts in longer features.
