Thawing
Melting, or fusion, is a physical process that results in the phase transition of a substance from a solid to a liquid. This occurs when the internal energy of the solid increases, typically by the application of heat or pressure, which increases the substance's temperature to the melting point. At the melting point, the ordering of ions or molecules in the solid breaks down to a less ordered state, and the solid "melts" to become a liquid. Substances in the molten state generally have reduced viscosity as the temperature increases. An exception to this principle is the element sulfur, whose viscosity increases in the range of 160 °C to 180 °C due to polymerization. Theaters Against War
Theaters Against War (THAW), was a coalition of theaters and volunteer theater artists organized to protest the Iraq War and the perceived concomitant restrictions on civil liberties in the US. As of November 2007, THAW had more than 250 member theaters, largely in New York City, but with some representation through the United States and abroad. THAW was formed at a meeting at Performance Space 122 in New York City on December 9, 2002 to organize a citywide theater-based anti-war protest for March 2, 2003. Kevin Thaw
Kevin Thaw (born 1967 in Uppermill, Saddleworth, West Riding of Yorkshire) is a British rock climber and mountaineer. Thaw has climbed notable routes and added many first ascents since commencing in Britain’s Peak District then relocating to California and journeying extensively through: Yosemite, El Capitan, Argentine Patagonia, the Himalaya, Alaska, Canadian Rockies, Alps, Mount Everest North side, summit June 2007. John Edward Thaw, (3 January 1942 – 21 February 2002) was an English actor who appeared in a range of television, stage, and cinema roles. Harry Kendall Thaw
Harry Kendall Thaw (February 12, 1871 – February 22, 1947) was the son of American coal and railroad baron William Thaw Sr.. Heir to a multimillion-dollar fortune, the younger Thaw is most notable for murdering the renowned architect Stanford White in front of hundreds of witnesses at the rooftop theatre of New York City's Madison Square Garden on June 25, 1906. Thaw had harbored an obsessive hatred of White, believing he had blocked Thaw's access to the social elite of New York. White had also had a previous relationship with Thaw's wife, the model/chorus girl Evelyn Nesbit, when she was age 16 or 17, which had allegedly begun with White plying Nesbit with alcohol (and possibly drugs) and raping her while she was unconscious. In Thaw's mind, the relationship had "ruined" her. Thaw's trial for murder was heavily publicized in the press, to the extent that it was called the "trial of the century". Florence Thaw
Florence Thaw (February 17, 1864 – March 5, 1940) was an American painter. Born in New York City, Thaw studied with Abbott Handerson Thayer and L. Birge Harrison in that city; she also attended the Académie Julian in Paris. She was married to Alexander Blair Thaw, with whom she moved to Washington, D.C., where they are both recorded as being active beginning in 1924; she is also known to have been active in England, in Sussex, around the turn of the century. Evelyn Nesbit (born Florence Evelyn Nesbit; December 25, 1884 or 1885 – January 17, 1967) was an American artists' model, chorus girl, and actress. She is best known for her years as a young woman in New York City, particularly her involvement in a deadly and abusive triangle between railroad scion Harry Kendall Thaw and architect Stanford White, which resulted in White's murder by Thaw in 1906. Alan Thaw (17 January 1926 – 22 February 2007) was an Australian rules footballer who played for Essendon in the Victorian Football League.
